If you want to be actively mixing in and out of a song you can rarely do it with trance. That's why I usually mix house and tech when I'm just practicing.
And man, nothing makes me more angry than someone pointing out a DJs energy level above everything else he's doing. As if that is the most important part!
Mixmag had a joke once about DJs who pretended to play every track through minute adjustments to the treble knob. It really is just to make them look busy, and is probably down to insecurity about what they're doing.

because their arms get tired from standing like this and they need something else to do?

The Hook videos remind me of Oakey a bit..
... and The Martinez Brothers, they have some obsessive relationship with the eq's.

A track can only be EQ'ed so perfectly and then after that there's really no point in fucking with everything. I'll see if I can find an example on youtube |
Almost forgot about that one, lol

It's just too amazing.
On a side note anyone know which remix of Krafty he's playing in the first video?
You beat me to it, lol. Just found those 2 Peter Hook videos on another forum.
At least on the one with the Red Bull booth, you can actually hear the treble being rammed up when he twists the knob. Sounds awful though.
However...he's playing a mixmag CD. Listen at the vocal that kicks in around the 0:15 mark...at 0:20 you can hear "MIXMAG!". What a fucking joke.
