You're right. It is more complicated. But it's also said to be the best DAW at the moment with the most frequent updates and innovative features. I'm not sure I would switch, but I'd like to be able to try it out and see if it would give me an even better workflow. I have yet to figure out what makes it so popular..

Thor I'd buy. The rest of their "gear" is pretty much outdated when compared to today's vsti's IMO.
Redrum vs battery/RMV is no contest.
NNXT vs kontakt - same thing.
Same goes for most of the effects and subtractor.

Personally I'd rather buy rebirth as a VST

But propheads will never release something like that.

scream distortion is also good imo.

+1

Are there any 'famous' artists who just use Reason to produce? I guess these days working with a variety of tools and software is better, so I will to be more specific.
Are there any 'famous' artists who use Reason as the primary production unit?

Which of you people out there use just Reason or mainy Reason to create your tunes? Can you post a link - myspace etc of where I can hear some stuff? I am addicted to Reason and understand there are plenty of other just as beautiful programs out there... but I just can't get myself to close Reason down to try any of them.

Famous ppl? I don't think so. It makes sense if you think about it:
Most producers who have the funds use hardware; at least some hardware synths. And, as anyone with a hardware synth will tell you, once you get it, you're pretty much forced to use another daw like logic, cubase, sonar etc. And tbh even if you did hear some famous artist say they're working on reason, chances are they're getting payed to say it.
However, i did hear prodigy used it as a sketch tool for their album. But they finished it in protools so I'm not sure that counts.
AFAIK Many producers use it to get ideas down fast, or rewired to a VST host like cubase.
Still, I'm sure there are ppl who can get a good sound with reason, it's not impossible, it just a lot easier to do it using quality VST's IMO.

Bzt completely wrong there are tons of artists that use reason exclusively.

Check out my myspace if you don't believe that you can get quality sounds out of mostly reason. I take advantage of rewire if i really need to in certain cases, though it is rare.

Why so defensive?
I never said you couldn't get quality sound from reason.
But you still failed to name a single famous producer who uses reason exclusively..

DJ Eco, Re ward, Daniel Kandi, BT(not exclusively though). Reason is not the best option for EDM but it is extremely powerful and can be adapted for anything if you have some creativity and originality.

I like Reason for its simplicity...I ReWire into ProTools and BAM!
Everything I need

I used reason for a year and knew it inside out. I know it can be a powerful tool, but to me it felt limited after a while so i switched to cubase and never looked back.. as did everyone else I know who tried it. But to each his own..

I'm curious.. Is there any proof these guys use only reason? Maybe some interviews\videos?

Posted by Stealth on Feb-14-2009 01:42:

Dave Spoon uses Reason almost exclusively.
http://profile.myspace.com/davespoon

he did some "in the studio" videos for Future Music recently... here is one of the videos I found

Good video, rarely see Reason in this style vid.

On an off-note, anyone know where to find more of those future music(or from wherever else) vid's? I know of the ones in the tutorial sticky but haven't had much luck in google & youtube & such.

Well shucks, lots of videos, but not much in the way of the interviews. Is future music the only magazine or site that does that style video?

Posted by Lucidity on Feb-15-2009 06:00:

Also "Computer Music" does it every month with the Producer Master Class video's. "Computer Music" is "Future Music's" sister magazine.

Posted by Stealth on Feb-15-2009 06:08:

not sure if you've already seen these but there's 36 "in the studio" videos here...

btw, after watching these videos I actually just went ahead and got a one year subscription... best $140.00 I ever spent!
