I think Stefan actually made a thread about our coming on the NYTA page...and I'm pretty sure I posted in the event threads (I seriously had a lot of trouble containing my excitement for S & T!)

Posted by Mr Moss on Feb-01-2009 23:08:

that looks like a fun outing... nyc, weekend, metro mischief, pacha, random skilled glowstickers

Posted by Big Boss on Feb-01-2009 23:47:

You guys took a bus to NYC? Ouch, that's pain. I went this weekend and the flight was only $265 Canadian everything in. That's the only bonus with the gas being low, flights are cheaper.

I went to Cielo on Thursday for Lauren Lane (a great local NYC DJ, she's going to blow up soon) and Victor Calderone. Cielo's soundsystem is amazing, it's a Funktion One. Crowd was into the music, and Lauren and Victor were spot on. It's real intimate, but filled with the right people.

Pacha is lucky they have the Pacha brand name pushing the club, because it's nothing special. Sure it's the old Sound Factory and the room is legendary, but the club is meh. Sound system is good and so are the visuals, but the crowd isn't the greatest. I think Guvernment and CiRCA are better than Pacha on a world wide basis.

Doman and Pettigrew were playing at Pacha and they were great. They really impressed the Pacha crowd and a lot of people were saying good things about these guys. Toronto can rock it!

Hmmmm my time for a quick review

.::EDIT:: this post is a result of procrastination ::EDIT::.

OHHH SHHIEEETT describes the weekend perfectly! Yea 10 hour bus ride there was a tad annoying, but in and out of sleep, a 30min stop at subway (where i remembered they sold CHERRY COKE still! i love things you can only find in other countries. at McDonalds the states still have the CHICKEN SELECTS! but i'll forever be duped when i buy ice tea...), and some readings for school passed the time. Woke up just outside of the city to cars honking..i knew we had arrived!

Subway venturing was an experience of itself. Haha turnstyles, asking bums not cops for directions, man in leather crotchless chaps, the REAL Santa Claus (he's not make believe afterall), a true Pimp in fur with bling bling and bling- did he have a cane? I cant remember if he actually did or i just wished he had one, people standing still makin money (like those painted elvis things, but in a tutu), live music, adds you connect your headphones to and listen to music, a fcuking maze network, going one way to one stop then reversing directions to the next stop?? my heads still spinning trying to figure that out, pigeons and Steve Alino (or some name that sounds like that, a tall black very drunk athlete we saw one night in new york..everyone was shouting his name and he almost fell onto the subway tracks).

Friday night was Markus Schultz set, HOLY, blloowwn away! The club was nicely organized getting in, 4 lineups clearly labeled and not much of a wait to get in. The guy searching me said we weren't allowed gum, then told me to rip the pack in half and just give half to him..as i did that the head bouncer came over, tapped him on the shoulder and said "i dont think we've met before" lol he then kept all my gum. being 20 I didnt get a wrist band so i dont know how much drinks are compared to canadian clubs, but Gatorade in the club for $6 did wonders. The basement was playing house which I could have easily enjoyed all night but glad i resisted temptation and resided upstairs with MS till....almost the end. Main floor was crowded, not much room to walk around at first but we found a great area surrounded by Skasians that gave us plenty of room to dance, plenty of entertainment (whats the skasian couples dance called again? when the man vigorusly shakes his women side to side, i think we coined the term Sketch ballroom that night) and like anywhere else in the club, EXCELLENT sound!!! The night was great filled with big hits such as CHAKALAKA (twice...or so i was told ;P lol), Silence, CANT SLEEP, Perspective space and many more I'm never able to id. My only complaint, though it only added more stories in the end, was the sketch factor that came out the end of the night! The patio especially..they need to add a speaker outside, but a popcorn/food vendor is a nice idea. Outside they did have a giant heater fan but it was being used all night by some sketchy girl i guess unable to move/talk. haha then from big G rhynosourus doing bicep curls on the dance floor, spit personality guy arguing with the bouncer while being thrown out (Im sorry Im sorry, I PAID $40 TO GET IN HERE, I PAID BIG MONEY, IM NOT LEAVING, Hey man its cool im sorry I PAID BIG MONEY!!!) to a random tap tap "where are you going? SURPRISE [jazz hands]" sketchbag and the skkkeeeettchhiiieeesssssstttt tranny i've ever seen working coat check, eventually enough was enough and we made our Limo ride home!!!

Ok now for Love!!

Cab driver had no clue where he was taking us, a $20 cab ride there was less than $5 back, but when he dropped us off at the intersection of Mcdougal and 8th (or something like that) a bouncer outside of a closed barbershop was our sign of fun to come! Down a dark dark dark stairway, wide enough for one, MAYBE two people shoulder to shoulder sure reminded me of comfort zone but this had a different feel..maybe im a little desensitized by zone now but entering a pitch black staircase underneith the big apple was a tad intimidating! Coat check guy was slow moving and seemed his friend helping out had to sit down and piece the world back together before getting back to work. It was then we realized the coat check was a few bars and a pile of jackets in a small room (oh i saw a sign, max 250 coats...i wonder how many there typically are...) but o well, we are now inside love....a SMMMMAALLLLLL lounge bar cut out of rock? The place is decked out like the inside of a cave, red lights fanning out of cracks and no shortage of-i guess you can call them prehistoric cave people? sketch! a few mobster looking people sitting at tables but i didnt notice that many skasians around, just people there to party and the vibe was great!! Standing next to the djbooth window..what i thought was the coat check, worried me that this club was WAY WAY WAY smaller than anyone could imagine...but then we were led down a hallway to the dance floor! OHHHHHHHHHHH you can dance here! And wow! The dancing room had a different vibe than zone, although it was dark, they had a lightshow that felt like an oldschool underground rave! Strobes, spotlights, handheld lazers, siren lights, a hanging disco ball that people would hit and spin and no shortage of glow sticks!!! Stoneface and terminal were on and the crowd was loving it, bar sales went till 4am, wish toronto could do this, and like mentioned before, INSANE GLOWSTICKERS!!!!! For me this made the night perfectly unique, I've never seen a live crew of amazing glowstringers and these guys were astonishing!!! Pics and Videos cant do justice to them and the attention they got from everyone around, by 3am when the crowd had lessened, almost everyone stopped and stared in awww!! A few lied down (on a pile of puke) to watch the show, while others glow-flirted with the 'big shots' of glowsticking. HAHA. Although low, steady deep style house dancing is the norm these days, high energy jumping and flailing soon took over! You just cant contain that much highenergy happy music with vibes that could cure depression!!!!! Even a homeless man enjoyed himself standing in the corner behind us.... and there was a funny explorer raver guy who provided tonnes of entertainment, dressed to explore the jungle or go on some adventure with curious george!

All in all....a trip that was bigger and better than I had thought possible, sooo many great memories, every second was excitement and I cant wait to go back!

yea we did Times Square, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, shopping (Bloomies!!)... typical new york stuff and completed it all by buying a bunch of Obama t-shirts woohoo!!! Till next time NY!

lol awesome review Bryan, I actually forgot some of the stuff you mentioned like the asking a bum for directions right when a police officer walked right by us haha.

on the subway back after Love...it was when we switched cars to get away from the smelly "oh shiet" guy. The guys yelling were the glowsticking guys as well as and the guy behind me and sarah that kept going "BEEEP-BOOOOOP!" whenever the doors would open and close lol

OOHH yeah they were yelling out of the subway train.. I wasn't paying attention, I was ignoring all of their yelling and screaming.

Posted by Endlesswave on Feb-02-2009 21:35:

Alright I'm heading down as of the 18th of February. Staying with a friend of mine in Brooklyn. Woooo.
Booking the bus tonight. Should land at 7am Wed morning, might book the earlier time though.

Alex we'll have to co-ordinate. (Y)

haha, yeah I wasn't paying huge attention b/c my stomach was being grumbly atm, but that guy was literally right behind me so I couldn't ignore his screaming lol, he was pretty damn excited about that Steve guy though! I recall him having an entertaining convo with himself for awhile during the ride too (in between announcing all of the stops for us of course!)
