I know I'm only 7 months into the whole parenting thing; however, my daughter is truly the greatest gift I've ever received. Yes the responsibility and obligations are many but the rewards far outweigh them. That said, the decision to have children is a highly personal one... not everyone has the aptitude or will to raise children and those who don't really shouldn't.

My parents are happy that my sister has popped one out with a 2nd on the way I love my nephew dearly, more so than any other kid I've come across and it has warmed me up to them a great deal.

I still have no plans on having a child of my own, and I think that makes my parents upset. They want me to know the "joy and fulfillment that comes from having a child".

Considering I currently live in a bach apt and 15g in student debt - a kid ain't gunna happen any time soon :P and my partner doesn't want one either, and if we did - we'd have to go through the adoption process, so it'd need to be a pretty conscious effort not a "Hey honey, lets not use a condom tonight!" try on a whim.

I just love kids....they're like little drunken midgets!

There is being a child at heart, and being childish. One is a good quality for an adult to have, the other not so much.

As a rough guess, I'd say that, oh about 4.8 shitloads of couples tend to buy houses before having kids, which already puts them well in excess of the $50,000 net worth bracket. Maybe the cash isn't lying around in some low-interest bank account - presumably because most people have more sense than that - but I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant.

I did say it was my guess didn't I???

And you're going to tell me that ...JESSE... Was talking about net worth???

Forget about him actually saying 50,000 " saved up"...

But keep disagreeing with me just for the sake of it...

Douche-cannon...

It's definitely not for the financially unsettled.

I used to volunteer at an orphanage in Taipei and they had nothing but success with middle class to upper middle class western couples wanting to adopt kids from overseas (America, Canada, Australia, UK, Holland, etc.). Yes there are a few requirements of the parents (have to be financially sound, physically healthy) but it's not an insanely expensive and stressful process. There are unfortunately a lot of babies and infants in Asia that get tossed to orphanages and temples (if a couple has twins it's considered unlucky as even numbers are bad luck, light physical disfigurements, father was a western guy who impregnated an asian girl, took off and she chose not to get an abortion, etc.)

I have a friend who adopted twice from Russia and it was a VERY expensive ordeal. Not only the process and paper work, but travelling to Russia 2 or 3 times over several months added up.

All in, it cost him about $45,000-$50,000 each time.

and you know what i really find offensive? when people find out and they say "oh, when you settle down you'll change your mind" because you can't possibly not want children in this world! you never know, maybe i will, but i find it really obnoxious when people say that.

i think i'll just get a puppy instead.

You stole the words right out of my mouth. Add on explaining why your kid/s have 2 mommies instead of 1 and you've got all of my reasons for avoiding having kids.

I've always wanted a Pug. Sounds like a great idea.

Truer words have never been spoken. You must procreate!

Me, I'm pretty sure I don't want kids. I have my reasons. I haven't completely ruled it out, but I really don't think it's going to happen.

I don't mind kids, SOMETIMES. But I can't imagine having to deal with them 24hrs a day. I'd much prefer being favorite aunt to all my best friend's/families kids.

+1 to taking offence to people saying "when you're older you'll change your mind"...how would you know? People don't all want the same things in life. What's good for you, may not be good for me.

I don't think it's a selfish decision at all.
