so if there is some phase cancellation and you have a huge hole at 250, how does knowing your speakers help ? You won't hear the information. You might know the frequency issue but how can you make adjustments regarding boosting and cutting if that frequency isn't there.

Don't get me wrong, i agree withmost of what is being said. Knowing your speakers is essential but i just don't understand how you can really hear with all those artifacts. I'm sure the mixes might be ok but i'm talking about people that want to make great mixes that rival popular music mixes.

I think at the end of the day it all comes down to how well your mixes translates to other systems - if it translates ok then you should be happy enough. But judging by what i read here and there, room treatment makes a huge difference, especially for bass, and could help improve your mixes even further.

I know i have to test my own tracks on ipods, in the car, on my hifi, and then go back and make adjustments because my mixes never translate, especially the low end, and i know thats down to the bass response in my room

Which is why im looking into getting it sorted in the next few weeks hopefully
