A buddy of mine entered club246 dj competitions twice...both times he didn't win, when in one instance he definitly should have won. Instead of ranting on an internet forum, he said "fuck those rigged popularity contests" and focused his efforts on expanding his horizons started producing. Now, about 3 years later this guy has honed his skills and is making dancefloor BOMBS in his bassment, trying to compile a library of tracks. Now he has a chance to explode onto the scene locally in Toronto and who knows where his productions could further lead him... So stop being a bitch and do something about it! |
, and it's lookin' good for this year.

I know a guy who spun in my round, and didn't win, but now is doing pretty good, 'cuz he said, "Screw this shit", and know he's spinning at clubs in TO, he spins house. I myself have taken it to heart and have been doing pretty good so far this year, 2 parties coming up , and it's lookin' good for this year. Try to use this is a stepping stone, and channel that anger into something positve, but it takes hard work, and patience, but it works. Cheers dude |

| Originally posted by Sirus Black well, when i was in the UK i met some ppl and they talked highly about this forum. i didnt get the chance to get myself on when i first heard about it, too busy on tours. i had forgotten about it and just today i was floating around through some old docs and came across it. so i signed myself up and opened with a rant. maybe not the best way for the first "Hi" cause most are ready to say "Goodbye". im harmless, been dubbed as weird, spin the Trance. I try to smile as much as i can without hurting my dimples. sometimes i come off to be a tad harsh, but i mean no harm. feels like im writing a bio on some dating site now. maybe ive said too much. what ultimately inspired me was that i knew there was a community of ppl out there that have a passion for something that i have passion 4. i knew that i could seek help and understanding on this forum. i knew that i could make friends, companions, and possibly become part of a family here. i knew that nothing is wrong casue someone always has an opinon, and that is what counts. all of the opinions that have recieved so far, some good some bad, also helps me find out more about myself. im not gonna get all bis pitchy cause someone looks at my newbiness and says fuck you. instead im gonna befriend that person casue until that time i dont know them and more importantly they dont know me. its a respect thing. i was told this is a very active forum, and all of you delivered. thankyou. i hope i can contribute somehow and someway, cause this is free knowledge on what i love in many cases. thankyou. |

Ugh, who cares if you didn't win the contest. It's not like 246 is the be all and end all of DJ booking.
It's not that hard to be booked in Toronto, especially opening slot. There are A LOT of clubs out there and people are always looking for new talent.
If you wanna get booked somewhere, practice, practice, practice. That should be obvious.
But also, you should go out and support other DJ's parties. Befriend them. Don't go out directly and try and get yourself booked right away, but if you make friends with promoters and DJs and owners and are semi decent, you'll get booked somewhere.
You aren't going to get booked out of your basement. You gotta go out there and network.
