That makes no sense whatsoever.

No person with half a brain is going to take these clowns seriously--this is not the point. The point is that a good portion of the American population will take fox news seriously--as an accurate source of information--and that is a serious concern.

As it happens I'm going to be at a reception this evening with Lieutenant-General Andrew Leslie. It should be interesting to hear what he thinks about America's reaction to all of this.

Posted by I_Am_Vince on Mar-23-2009 20:03:

This is really stupid, for a NEWS station to broadcast such stupid things. Like what someone else said, we only make fun of Americans on sitcoms or comedy shows not on the news, and we depict them as ignorant and stubborn people which is apparently clear here.

I had a friend who served in the Canadian Army who got killed in Afghanistan last week, had three weeks left on duty. Watching this made me very angry.

Our military can take a break because we don't pick fights with, or try to police every other country in 'the universe'

AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!

These people are being taken seriously.. whoever thinks otherwise hasn't a clue about US politics

You know..I really fucking hate it when Canadians say that we shouldn't care..that we shouldn't make a fuss...fuck that noise....we have four soldiers that just died, for a war that wasn't even ours to begin with..hell ya we should be mad!!! do you believe for a moment that the American's would take that type of shit being said about their boys and girls of the millitary??? I have no problem with our government demanding an apology on our behalf..for once they actually grew some balls..

so before people start whining about how we should bend over and take it up the ass without the astroglide..imagine how the families of our men and women feel about such comments..let alone the families of the four soldiers that were flown back to Toronto today..

don't mean to go on a tirade but this crap really angers me..

Afghanistan isn't Canada's war? Ignorant comments like this frustrates me to no end

Just like couple of Yanks say stupid stuff, I've heard way too many Canadians who feel like they are on some sort of moral high horse and lip off to the Yanks WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT THE FUCK THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.

Yeah. Fox news said something stupid. Let's not forget that Canadians have said their share of stupid things as well.

I really wouldn't expect anything more. By that logic every nation deserves to be attacked by terrorists, no?

Posted by spolitta on Mar-23-2009 22:24:

There are stupid and ignorant people in every country and every culture of the world, so I wouldn't pay too much attention to a few morons specifically on fox news talking nonsense on their national television.

The only thing worth watching on Fox news is Glenn beck.

The problem is that Fox News (and News Corp) have the biggest audience in America so shit like this gets the most exposure amongst the Bible Belt which only helps perpetuate the ignorance towards Canada, Canadians and the rest of the world, to be honest.

You guys really should watch "Outfoxed" if you haven't already. Great documentary.

Yes, I'm totally ignorant...thanks for taking notice...

I'm not gonna apologize for standing up for our troops and fallen soldiers..so if you want to call me ignorant..i'm cool with that..

and to be honest..if makes me howl that people can still throw the word "ignorant" around in the internet and GOOGLE age....information is at my fingertips ...just because someone has a differing point of view doesn't make them ignorant....so please, feel free to disagree but get off your high horse and realize your views are not doctrine..

here you go..at least another "ignorant"

Considering I've had friends serve overseas since 05, just waiting for a bunch of them to come back in few weeks and having 3 people I know being wounded in action, you'd think I'd know what it is to support our soldiers.

I'm not calling you ignorant because you support our troops. I'm calling you ignorant because many left wing peaceniks form an opinion, but they had no clue.

Actually, I take that back and I'll apologize. I'm not going to call you ignorant because you may be one of few peaceniks that may be educated on the issue. I dunno for sure. I got a bit irate.
But very often I speak to left wing types and they can't even name basic facts about about Canada's mission in Afghanistan, being too clueless in their anti Yank rhetoric.

Funny how many left wing types claim to support the troops by wanting to end the mission in Afghanistan, but don't quite realize that most soldiers actually want to serve in Afghanistan, esp those reservists who sign up and volunteer and there aren't enough spots to take them all.
But I digress.

Quoting Walkom who is about credible as Taliban propaganda isn't going to support your argument.

If you want to understand Canada's involvement from political point of view, read up on UN resolutions on Afghanistan. Also NATO articles which specifically said attack on one member is attack on all members.

If you want to understand Canada's involvement from moral point of view, think about this.
If you believe that Canada should support democracy, liberty, human rights and all that stuff. You'd be in support of the mission. Because people like Taliban dont want that stuff in Afghanistan, and little girls will not get their chance for education, or to be elected in govt, or get health care, etc.

A weekly column written by someone at the star is probably not the best source to use.

I think the furor is a little bit of an overreaction to a segment that's little more than a Colbert Report or Daily Show wannabe.

Are these guys totally unfunny hacks? Yes. But I try not to be offended by attempts at humour, no matter how tasteless it may be.

I realize that my words may have been misunderstood. It was not my intent to disrespect the brave men, women and families of the Canadian military, and for that I apologize. Red Eye is a satirical take on the news, in which all topics are addressed in a lighthearted, humorous and ridiculous manner,

Clearly the entire POINT of the segment was to 'debate' the topic in a ridiculous manner, which they did. Should anyone being paid during the segment be fired for sucking at funny? Probably.

But letting some comedian-wannabe, unfunny hack offend you with their ramblings is being a touch oversensitive in my mind.

It's like taking Don Cherry seriously. We all know he's an idiot, but who's ever ACTUALLY offended by the guy?

I won't blame Americans but I will definatly blame Fox. Fucking ignorant bastards.

I'm sure the benefit of all the added PR that this show got (be it good or bad) probably far outweighs the trouble of making an "appology" that the host had to issue on FOX's behalf.

I didn't find the comments funny either in light of the recent soldiers who were killed. What I was trying to underscore was that the show was meant to be a satire similar in a way that the Daily Show is. The problem really is that the show sucks and their jokes were obviously in poor taste.

i am acutally suprised that doug was on fox news since he is the biggest pothead in the world.

his movie on smoking weed:

from the article

Fox offered up an apology a few hours later saying comments on the show were in no way an attempt to make light of troop efforts.

I realize that my words may have been misunderstood. It was not my intent to disrespect the brave men, women and families of the Canadian military, and for that I apologize. So, all blown out of proportion?

Just how many times has Royal Canadian Air Farce or the Mercer Report poked fun at the Yanks?

i wasn't using it as a source to prove a point as much as to point out that other people have the same opinion..i think in the end a lot of this stuff boils down to perception and opinion...like i said...there are opinions on both sides....i'm not trying to convert anyone to my way of thinkin..but i would like to not be considered an idiot cuz i don't share the opinions of someone else..
