I have a good friend, he is a bartender at several locations in the south bay. Friday night, he had a house party. I brought all my gear over and rocked progressive tunes all night long. It was good fun, and everyone sort of relaxed and enjoyed it.

On saturday night, my same buddy called me up to ask me if I wanted to come play at one of his bars. Said that they had no 'entertainment' for the night and that it would be cool to bring my stuff by. I was a little sketch about the crowd and atmosphere, but then thought, how many times will I get this chance? Low and behold, after about the first hour, this girl walks up to me. Mind you, she was blonde. "Do you have music with words in it? Is this all you have, 'techno'? - Can you play something we can dance too. Maybe something like the BLACK EYED PEAS?" I was like, ohh no. I know you didn't just say that? Are you serious? I told her if she wanted to hear the black eyed peas that she needed to go find herself a wedding DJ. As I've heard, they play the songs you request. She got mad and stormed out. I was like, "Good, I didn't want her here anyways."

bro, awesome anecdote!!! i love reading stuff like this... cheers!

It was so classic - I immediately went up to the doorman and mentioned this thread. I was like, wow - did this blonde think she was Paris Hilton?

Did anyone see yesterday's commercial for Talk Soup on E?

Pretty funny, talked about reason's why Paris Hilton's boyfriend had a busted lip... (since the DJ denied hitting him)

hilarious! definitely classic!

i love how in both instances the sheer audacity of the request for different music is completely rebuffed. awesome.

Tell that bitch that 'techno' IS DANCE MUSIC...

It irritates me how people just don't get how EDM works, it's called E-D-M for a reason, Electronic DANCE Music... and honestly you dance however u like in dance music.. it bores the hell out of me how hiphop can only do 1 move: grinding (ok i'm exaggerated a little bit), but in techno/trance/house u can actually DANCE whatever

so the next time you encounter someone pulling a Paris, tell her to f*** off or else

That was my feelings on the whole thing. I was pissed off at her calling Prog - 'Techno'. When she asked me about 'playing music people can dance too.' I really replied with - "Have you gone to san francisco? I see people in the clubs up there dance to this music every weekend. I find it hard to believe YOU can't dance to it."

Its funny, how as a DJ, I took it offensively that she didn't like my music, and asked me to change it up to something completely different. Thats why I told her I would play her requests, if she was the one paying me to play. Otherwise, I will play the music I'm being paid to play.

that is how most djs feel. it's not cool when someone who has no experience or knowledge related to djing comes up to you and tells you they think you should play what they hear on the radio every day and sing in the shower. it's ridiculous. By the 2nd time it happens, you say... "Here we go again."

Sometimes I will tell the dolt I will play their song "pretty soon" just to get them to leave the booth. That's what you do when you are sick of all the arguing, bitching, and complaining you're going to hear if you don't tell them that.

A lady came up to me about a few weeks back, and asked if I could play her Lady Gaga's Poker Face during my prog/electro house set... she was rubbing all over me, and worse she smelled like alcohol, probably drunk by then... I swear she wouldn't let me go and kept on begging me to play her song, until I told her "I'm going off soon, but I'll make sure the DJ after me will play that for you"

Haha I feel sorry for the DJ after me

I think it's interesting that me and Paris Hilton both agree that Steve Angello is a fucking terrible DJ.

Pretty much everything you think is win in life I would consider a fail. Different worlds Tommy.

Ah, but for different reasons.

Funny quote, though

Tommy and Clovis sitting in a tree. k-i-s-s-i-n-g. First comes love, then comes marriage...then comes the baby in the baby carriage.

That's not all, that's not all, the baby's drinking alcohol.
