The whole point of Oslo is that it's a fucking dungeon. It's hot, sweaty, the people are fucked up. You don't go to Detroit for models and bottles, you got for basement crack fests. Oslo's weaknesses are inherently great. You are right, there's no A/C, the system isn't that good, the place will be packed... and I personally wouldn't have it any other way.

Listen to Bruno or Landsky recoded @ Temp Tattos last year... the music speaks for itself.

Love

Thank you very nice list

Yeah, Oslo is hot tranny mess...but I love it. It's worth madness I think. Hopefully there are no gang shootings outside this year...sucks they had to close early last year because someone felt the need to cap a fool.

I'm all for grimy dungeons, but when the heat level becomes a concern to my health, that is fucking retarded. I had a great time at Bert's On Broadway, which most of my friends described as a "crack den," none of whom described Oslo that way. It was hot there too, but not nearly to the level of Oslo.
I would not call it inherently great when it hampers you having a good time. Last year I could not enjoy the music at all because I couldn't stand being in the one room where the music actually was because it was too fucking hot. Having a place be crappy for the sake of being crappy is just as stupid as having a place be VIP for the sake of being VIP. I want to be able to enjoy myself at a party, and I for one, can't do that when I'm shedding pounds of weight in sweat and can barely breath because the air feels more like a solid than a gas. Just add a goddamn fan or two in there at least. That is not going to take away from the "atmosphere" of it being down and dirty.
Also, there is never an excuse for shitty sound anywhere, imo. You can have the crackiest crack house ever, but there should always be good sound at a techno party. You are THERE for the sound ffs (or at least you should be).

richie and luciano had a great afterparty at oslo a few years ago, but it is a total crack den with no ventilation

I am waiting for my favorite grimey venue! Berts on Broadway!!!!!!!!!

*waits anxiously*

If you are claustrophobic in the least don't go to Oslo. The layout and sound is terrible. TV bar is a good spot.

Posted by Zild on Apr-16-2009 13:56:

Nice! I'm going to have to see Tim, Camea, and Jamie Jones for sure.

5/23 - Hello?Repeat label night w/ Daze Maxim, Bruno Pronsato

dunno where it is tho
but Im there

edit:
oops, this is probably the same as VOLATL
You should take Tim & Camea off the TBA list for 5/23... that would be the Clink portion of the VOLATL party

Also, cost for House-n-Home is $20

I'd love to see Cassy and Eric but you can count me out of this one. The heat there is unbearable. It ruined my night last time.

It's in a basement, and the only ventilation (no hyperbole here) is two tiny vents, about a square foot in size each, over the bar area.
Mind you, the bar area is divided from the booth/dancefloor area by a big solid wall. When I was there last year, they also only had sound in the dancefloor area. So if you wanted to hear the music at all you had to brave the 110 degree heat.
I can't deal with that kind of BS. It really should be illegal to hold events in environments like that.

I completly agree. I left early and had no fun because it was so hot. I was really looking forward to that party last year too. I wouldn't go there again.

What's your issue with the St. Regis?? It's a great hotel, in a great area. I'd love to hear your reasons. Thanks!

I have an idea. Let's make a separate thread for this topic. Oh wait, there already is one. Thanks.

Read This! so many parties

my first demf, and there's wild amounts of talent all over the place. Does everyone bounce from afterparty to afterparty, find a 9-5 party (the other 9-5...)

what goes on?

its a little bit a both. the only issue your going to have is capacity and lines so if you want to bounce around that may be an issue. sometimes its better to stick with what you got and other times its not.

Posted by beema on Apr-22-2009 15:05:

I'd say bouncing around is mainly an issue because transportation in Detroit isn't so great.
Unless you have a car, getting a cab might be problematic unless the places you are going between are right in the immediate downtown area.
I'd stick to one party a night, and then if you go someplace else, an afterhours, not a party during the same time.

true. i never take transpiration into account still since i used to live there. makes sense though and yes it can be a pain getting around.

There's a good chance The Night Move will running a late night loop around Detroit during festival weekend... www.thenightmove.com

Cabbies are also known to rip people off.

Posted by dubblies on Apr-22-2009 15:52:

Having a driver always helps in terms of getting from the parties around Hart Plaza/Greektown/Woodward Ave. to places like the Works, TV Bar, etc.

In terms of taxis, it is wise to call a cab rather than try and find one on the street, but downtown is the best place to find one. Checker Cab apparently is the largest taxi company in Detroit. I know in the past I have somehow found myself in a church van on my way back to Royal Oak from Detroit and it was actually a bargain, but I think that was New Years Eve. Anyway, here is more information.

Checker Cab

Detroit Taxi Companies List

* Checker Cab
* Lasalle Cab
* Yellow Cab
* Jean's Taxi
* Detroit Cab Co
