Just to point out, I had a mislabeled track on Yang, Pixel vs Wrecked Machines - Help The Situation (X-Noize Remix) is actually supposed to be Xerox & Passenger - Science is God (Ultravoice Remix). Sorry for the confusion
Right, did Yang this morning.
Firstly, as happy as the first track may be, it's god awful! Sorry dude, lol!
The mix from Operatic into Indigo unfortunately stays noticeably off for the duration of the entire transition, but other than that the mixing was perfectly acceptable.
One of the transitions had you cut the bass when the new track coming in had a very different and less powerful bassline, which lost some momentum I thought, but it probably would have been fine over a club system.
Tracks were hit and miss for me, some were just too much like UK Hard Trance in their upliftingness, and I don't really like that in psy, and as much as I LOVE Science Is God, it felt out of place given it's darker feel.
Good mix all the same though!
Will do Yin on Monday.
grabbin now mate.

So here it is, a review of Yin:
First, I think in your description you mislead a bit, the dark in-your-face track, not a bad track by all means, but not dark at all. The mix into the second track is good, but (I dont say it as a bad thing, just for making a remark about your idea and what turned) the track itself is also not suitable for a dark party. I dont like it too, this vocal is making me cringe, very cheesy one.
Third track is coming a bit roughly in the mix but not disturbing. The track is a bit darker but still has some light melodies and overall feeling here and there. For me these first 15 min are like a preparation for a more massive set in the end which is what this tension is all about imo.
18 min transition could be much better imo, you mixed the 4th track a bit earlier but this after all is a matter of taste - should we exhaust the party people or give them a minute for some preparation for the incoming rage!
The track is darker from the previous one, nice progression so far. We are starting to talk here!
24 min again not a perfect transition, mostly because it was not a very nice beatmatching, you could feel the bass from the two tracks well enough. The track, however, is good! 8)
30 min is where I can feel it very nicely, awesome track. Bouncing stuff!
In 49 min there is again a light track that is kicking in. A bit strange for the overall feel but, oddly, is was not disturbing.
The end of the set is a bit disappointing. This track of Infected Mushroom definitely didn't work for me, nor is dark or anything. Cheesy as hell. I think you had to push it to a even darker realm, but this end wasn't dark. The last track is just not good.
Overall the set was decent. Had some good tracks and some bad ones, mixing mostly was decent as well. What imo you need to work for those kind of sets is the progression, you had it in one moment, and then... just you dropped it at the end. The last tracks aren't really worth the rest from the set. Cheers and keep on making them!
Thanks, man! I know you are a fan of the serious psychedelic tracks that blow your mind, my intention for this set was more of a full-on feel, especially in the beginning. I started twisting the set a tad more as it progressed, but perhaps I could have developed the set a tad better. My personal favorites are the Insomnia track, Delicious, and Micro Revolution. Sorry about some of the dodgy transitions, they were all pretty solidly programmed, but maybe my track choice and frequency handling could be a tad better. The Infected Mushroom track has always been one I liked, and I know it's cheesy, but I figured by this point in the set the average listener has lost their mind (referring to people who aren't experienced psyheads like you
). I apologize if it wasn't dark enough for you
I am planning a Revenge of Taijitu, it's going to be quite a different direction from this time, but still an uplifting/dark theme. I will make it more intense next time, trust me
. Also, look forward to a progressive set next month, followed by a really intense full-on set in July.
listened to them on my 70km bicycle trip, first yang then yin.
the first track in yang was literally a WTF moment, but it became obvious to me that it was on purpose in a couple of seconds, then it was funny
the rest of it was pretty enjoyable even though i gave up on this genre. mixing is good and the overall flow is nice
after that i started to listen to yin, man that was really great after yang, the flow here is much more suitable for my taste, track selection is great, only the second track was a bit different then all the others but it was really great too.
nice mix, i'm looking forward to your future releases!
cheers
Wow, thanks! I'm glad you liked them, how was that bike ride with that in the background?
I bet that would be fun to bike to psytrance
I really appreciate the feedback, I'm so pleased with how this set turned out, seems like a lot of people enjoyed it at least a little bit!
Thanks a bunch, stay tuned!
Did Yin this morning.
Tracks on the whole were much more to my liking, I'm even going to hunt a few of them down
Mixing on the whole was decent, but I felt the first mix had a pretty noticeable key clash, and one or two of the later mixes were very abrupt, but on the whole I preferred it to Yang by leaps and bounds
Good to hear! I'm glad you liked it, sorry some of the mixing was a tad off. Hope this kind of stuff caters to your interests
