Generally speaking nursing is not a profession that is highly paid. Not in ireland and the UK anyway.

It's not underpaid but you work bloody hard for the Salary you get (again over this side of the water)

Same with being an MD or a PhD. You get paid well, but you work all the fucking time, so you deserve the money.

No, you tard. Why would I talk in terms of dollars I won't earn?

I was just making sure it was that canadian trash since the values seemed too high.

Exactly..
It basically brings up that great saying,

'Some people work to live, others live to work...'

Depends what your priorities are, and the grass is always greener. By that i mean someone who's always working and earns a load of cash will be jealous of their friends who travel the world but live on a lot less and work shity jobs until they can afford to travel to the next city for their next adventure and visa versa..

Lol. I don't even have to work full time to earn that.

I never said you did but my closest cousin is a nurse and is going for her masters now so I have a good idea of what they get paid.

The money hungry nurses always go to the States when they graduate here...but that's not why I do it. Plus, fuck the States, lol.

A bunch of them probably don't exist either. Just keep that in mind.

start out by using your family connections if you have any.

then job placement through your previous educational institution.

online platforms ie, craigslist, monster, etc.

hire a head hunter.

temp agencies.

go to job fairs.

your local paper.

ask you friends and network your ass off.

That's true for every profession that pays more than 50k. Materialistic whores.

edit: we actually call those types "Appliance Nurses", cause they own a lot of nice things but suck at their fucking job.

Ha! funny, we call people like that Appliance_____" as well. Mostly people in Sales get that title.

yea srsly i use that site all the time.

however it seems that job hunting on the internet is a futile attempt at this time.
been out of work for almost 2 years now and after months of submitting resumes online i only have a handfull of interviews to show for it.

regarding what someone said a lot earlier bout teaching, getting a masters is obviously the more direct path to teaching but leaves you pigeonholed a lot more. A juris doctor qualifies you, in CA, to be able to teach at community colleges and even smaller universities while still leaving other options available to me.

regarding previous poster, i agree w/ the job websites, its a total clusterfuck. only companies constantly hiring are sales and commissions ones who make you phone jockeys, which for now I am steering clear of.

the discussion of nursing has been mentioned in previous posts. one reason that profession is always hiring is because it has such high turnover due to hospitals, when they look to cut costs, they look first at shafting nurses in terms of staffing enough people or giving them proper resources to do their job. i was reading a report where there are 10 yr cycles where hospitals really feel a crunch and go on a massive hiring spree for nurses, then after things calm down, axe who they need to (or cause many to quit), instead of finding long term solutions to satisfying nurses. a nurse anaesthesist makes great 6 figure salary by the way on top of great hours.

i think i may have to go the route of law clerk/legal assistant in firms for now. should i pass bar, wait w/ a firm til they are hiring and hope they promote from within but otherwise, just build up experience, pay off student loans, and make contacts. i like how the other day i read an article that in the US, all time high for unemployed lawyers, makes me feel all warm n toasty inside.

Look at how many lawyers focus on shit. Focus on corporate tax law type stuff, and it is much better.

It is pretty bad. It took me 3 months and I was sending out 50 resumes a day, had 6 agencies looking for me, talking to friends, anyone. It was hell.

Do what I do, gamble for a living.

It's always easier to find work when you have a job already. My resume has been updated and circulating for a couple months, just in case. But nobody is hiring in commercial finance right now, anyway LOL.

Oh, and nurses make more here in the states due to the privatized health care industry. Socialized medicine is capping wages in Canada and Europe.

(opening a giant can of worms )

sell yourself on craigslist. it's not gay if you're doing it for money.

Posted by elektrikal on Apr-21-2009 22:46:

to gehzumteufel,

i took one federal income tax law and knew that was the last time i wanted to deal with corporate tax matters. ACRS and MACRS and how to carry losses forward just bores me to tears, and thats only for a class, doing federal, state, country tax laws would make me join the list of burned out lawyers.

areas of law i like are environmental and white collar crime, and basic contracts stuff.

Boring = best paid and lowest attrition.

Posted by elektrikal on Apr-21-2009 22:55:

haha good point.

on a side note, first law firm i worked at, this one lawyer turned to me my first day and said you wanna be a lawyer?, i replied w/ yes, he just looked at me w/ a frown shaking his head and said, why?

that worried me a bit.
