why are you getting married?
i just don't believe love needs a ring and an expensive party to make it real. If you are committed now, you will not be more committed after saturday... unless it is because of religion which is just more lol.
The only difference is that it is going to cost you a couple of grand when you break up
good luck!

My point still stands.
i am in a committed relationship.
we live together and own property together.
we don't see other people.
we love each other.
what more could marriage give me, i am curious?
such an outdated practice

Lol, so naive. I can't wait till you hit the 5 year mark in your relationship.

| Originally posted by StanVoid I think a lot of it just boils down to outside pressure - parents asking you to marry, friends asking you when you'll marry, so people end up with this sense that marriage is something that's necessary. I think also it grants some people a sense of security ... almost like if you're married, it'd be harder to break up so that means there's an added probability that you'll stay together. The realistic and concrete advantages of marriage are in the tax laws that favor married couples. |

| Originally posted by Saka +1 Marriage is something we both want in this relationship. It would make me happy to be married, as it would make her happy, if we were married, so what is your problem with marriage? Why is it "outdated"? |

The only benefit of marriage, to me, is taking on my husband's family name. I definitely view it as a union in that sense, and that's what appeals to me about it.
But yeah I'm with you, Jay. You're either committed, or you're not. If you need marriage to change or stabilize your relationship, you're doomed to fail, imo.
in quebec they don't do the name thing anymore.
You have to pay extra and get it approved by a judge. My gf wants to do it for some reason ( i have a horrible last name lol), so that is her prerogative.
I think the courts do it this way because of all the divorce and all the having to switch the names back.

marriage is just another excuse for chicks to get fat and ugly.
for instance, italian girls seem to have this gene where as soon as a ring gets put on their finger, they gain 120lbs and grow a ron jeremy mustache.
in limbo, bitches hit the gym
