my uncle lives on a sailboat down in the carribbean (grenada) and they literally catch fresh tuna and eat it raw with wasabi & soy sauce when they lived in the bahamas, i used to visit a lot with my mom and we'd go spear fishing and catch hog fish. not sure if anyone has heard of a hog fish but it's fucking delish. very white and meaty like chicken.

let's see what else are my favs...

grouper or mahi mahi sandwich (total florida meal)
fried shrimp & hush puppies (my dad makes the best)
lobster & crab meat with melted butter
oysters (raw or steamed)
clams
MUSSLES steamed with whatever sauce

Hubby goes deep-sea (offshore) fishing with his buddies once a month... I get fresh raw tuna right off the boat!! MMMMMM!!!

yea that's always good too. my other uncle is a yacht captain out of treasure island and he goes on deep sea fishing tournaments all the time...and he usually wins them too lol

there is nothing better than fresh fish. and it shouldn't smell either...that's one of the keys to fresh. if it smells fishy, it's not really fresh.

This thread is making me so excited for my sister's bday dinner party at The Mandarin tomorrow

Posted by squirrelly on May-21-2009 17:21:

Red fish is really good too. Nothing like fishing for reds all day, catching a whopper, and then having a delish dinner with it.

my sister's man lost major points for turning these guys away

My family makes it every year, but for some reason sledzie and I just don't get along that well

Yeah, now you're happily eating your seafood. But Great Cthulhu's revenge will be terrible when he'll rise from the abysmal depths and eat a tentacle full of landfood!

Damn, you'd have to be a serious fag to not eat that, I would pound that shit down!

Tapado: it's a soupy stew that contains a wide variety of seafood, including squid, crab, shrimp, red snapper, sea bass, or mako shark, coconut milk and plaintains.

That's definitely one thing I miss about South Florida. Though I must say - never go at night.

You wouldn't believe how good this is. I work at a marine shipping company and sometimes I have to travel to the Atlantic coast (where this dish is originary from). There's this restaurant that is located on the beach, and has a deck that goes over the ocean that serves magnificent tapado.

What do you do for your company, woscar? Merely curious.

//Oh, project management?

I find it rather amazing that sushi has not been mentioned yet. Seriously, congrats to all for your creativity. But alas, I am not so creative..

Yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno and a light ponzu sauce FTW

Brian, go to Wokcano at 7th and Flower. Place is pretty good.

Posted by Halcyon+On+On on May-21-2009 18:10:

That looks like bologna slices with hot dog condiments on top.

Is that redneck sushi?

That place is mediocre on it's best days. I've eaten there a few times (literally across the street from my office) and the sushi is just OK.

EDIT: There's an AYCE joint near my place with sushi that's at least as good, if not better than Wokano, and it's $25 out the door to gorge myself.

When I had it on Sunday, the stuff was fresh, but it wasn't the best quality wise. Still not bad.

$25 for all you can eat?! Fuck man, what is the address?

The toppings are a slice of jalapeno and a spot of Siracha sauce. The brown liquid is ponzu, which is a light, citrus-tinged sauce.

Not only do they go out at night, they stay the night out in the Bahamian water

Their happy hour isn't bad. Their basic rolls are decent, especially for $3 a pop in the bar.

Midori Sushi

Midori Sushi

Yeah that was the thing. We got there for happy hour and it was not bad for the price. It worked out relatively well. Although $25 for all you can eat would have been better price wise. lol

LOL, I used to be in charge of the implementation of SAP/R3. Now that it's over, I'm handling pretty much everything related to SAP within my business unit.
