that analogy is wrong.
the purpose of charging money for plastic bags is to try to cut down on the waste so people will bring reusable bags. plates at a restaurant are washable and reusable. maybe if you dined at restaurants that use disposable plastic plates and cutlery then you could use this analogy.

asian to asian here is a funny story (not really).

when you order delivery in south korea they deliver everything on real plates and come pick them up after you are finished.

they used to do that in hong kong many many years ago. after you are done eating you would leave the plates in the hallway and they pick them up.

I'm pretty sure by the 3rd or 4th time of you doing it you'll be pretty damn good at bagging them and estimating how much you need.

Stop being such a cry baby about it. It's not the end of the world. It's only 5 cent grocery bags.

Ps. We have this concept back in the "shithole" called reality. You should check it out

if it aint tea bagging it aint trying.

Convenience and efficiency isnt something that is quite understood in europe. Which is why we have been the world leaders in economy for 100 years. Let me tell you this though... you havent seen convenience until youve been to china. Makes you wonder.....

The analogy was more for the service being provided and not the environmental issue....so it does work

at the end of the day does it really matter?

it could be worse, you could be a Somali child that wished he could eat your bag.

sense of entitlement is so american, stop selling out.

So just how far are you willing to take this? Would you invite a girl over for dinner, then sit at the empty table staring at her, and finally call her a lazy spoiled brat for not making it herself?

The reason I'm at the supermarket in the first place is to have a service provided to me. If they are going to refuse to provide that service, then they have no right to charge me for it, and it should be reflected in lower grocery prices (and in fact, the bag-it-yourself outlets like No Frills do have lower prices). Further to that, a supermarket cashier has no business getting paid upwards of $20 an hour just to ring up items.

You continue to make the same argument. Oh don't be so lazy, like it's SO much work, or SO much money. Blah blah. That has nothing to do with it. I simply don't like being instructed to do someone else's job for them.

In case you hadn't noticed, nobody's actually talking about the cost at this point. Do you even bother to read what people say or do you just wait for your turn to chime in?

I love how they are all yapping about the cost, when it's NOT even an issue
talk about missing a point completely

Must be Liberals.

Give me a fucking break. If they ACTUALLY wanted to cut waste, they would charge more than a measly 5 cents a bag.

Shhh, don't give them ideas!

One of these days I'm going to write about the plastic water bottles. They're the real waste, both economic AND environmental. It's practically criminal the way that shit is peddled.

Ania: Do you really have something against work, customer service and convenience? I dont get why you are so harsh about this. Are you a disgruntled service employee? How can anyone really be against better quality customer service otherwise?

I am a firm believer that i should receive the value and service i expect in return for my hard earned money that i made by providing the same to others. I used to think this was common sense but I guess not in modern silly socialist canada?

true... because younger people are polluted by that mantra moreso than older ones.

Try having an intelligent debate in university if you are a right winger. Recipe to fail or get a C in all your classes which is why i had to keep my mouth shut!

In University, many of us were all for change. 10 years later, we all regret what we pushed to change for.

Not all.. you still do get some NDP voters.

NDP voters tend to be those who are poor enough to want handouts or those who are rich enough to afford to fork over a shitload to free their conscious. The people who get stuck with the tab though is everyone in the middle.

I am a fulltime student. I don't work any cash registers.

Lazy self-righteous fucks like Aaron just annoy me.

End of story.
