Benny Benassi over and over again...one of the worst "famous" dj's on the planet...

Yes! I was astounded. It was my last great clubbing moment right now I can recall. Totally not a 'Diggers' record in my book.

PvD in Tokyo, Feb 2008.

Yoda was on before and after, and totally rocked the joint. When PvD was on however, he had his MacBooks, keyboard, some kind of techical team with him, and seemed more interested about how he looked rather than actually getting people to dance. Was really disappointed. But it was worth it because some of the tuneage that Yoda dropped. Unbelievable!

I guess I'll go see him (PvD) again if he's back later this year...

joris voorn

i love his productions, his mixing was spot-on, but it was all really predictable and "safe." he did nothing interesting at all; just intro/outro mixes the whole night. that and he raped the filters all night, like he felt it necessary to create a big buildup with the hi-pass during every track.

also deep dish; saw them in 07 and it was again, predictable and safe. you'd think with two guys up there they would do something interesting, instead it was just the two of them tagging off mixes and jumping up and down.

one dj that i thought would be shit but actually impressed me was bad boy bill of all people, i don't get down with his productions or electro house at all for that matter but he was a lot of fun, kept everyone dancing, and did a lot of technically interesting mixes.

kms is definitely the worst of the original detroit cats as far as deejay sets go

No, lol, not at all, I just thought he would play something a tad more exciting than what he did. I had no expectations of Paul Oakenfold "killing it"

Oh and Omar-S, I'll give him a 2nd shot but holy crap he was a wretched dj.

So I guess his Fabric CD is a good indication...

Really suprisingly Matthew Dear

Started off brillaintly, dropped a few tracks I quite enjoy like Mountain People - 006.2, but then descended into a farce of trainwrecking, changing the bpm by about 5 or so every track (no joke), and basically just playing for himself. He was certainly enjoying it though, was gurning as if he was being blown underneath the decks.

Sebo K, who played before him, evened the night out, as I had not expected him to be too great and he ended up blowing my fucking socks off.

Claude von Stroke - proggy/ploddy in Detroit, miserable in Chicago
John Tejada - Aimless liveset, not bad from a listening perspective but shit music for peak drunk hours in a nightclub
Marco Carola - snoozefest everytime
Sasha/Digweed - Only seen each once, both pretty predictable and ploddy
Innervisions @ DEMF 2009 - Can you say flat?
Matthew Dear - Flat out boring
Steve Lawler - so bad I left

Was that at Axis? I remember that night

Posted by tubby on Jun-18-2009 12:08:

only two really stand out.
Chris fortier, spent the whole set carrying on about the monitors, end of his set the place was dead. Matt rowan came on and killed it,the place was packed again at 6am.

satoshi tomei, came on at festival to close after steve lawler and played totally light and fluffy crap, after lawler's dark stuff. a good way to spread out the rush out the gates I guess

Tiesto at Privilege in Ibiza last year.

I was thinking it would just be a good fun party night with some big tunes and a few classics.
Absolute shit. Really boring "nothing" music with no progression at all.

Posted by woscar on Jun-18-2009 15:26:

LOL @ all the people actually expecting Tiesto, Armin and PvD to "kill it"

that stage was way too big for a show like that. i would like to see their live performance at a smaller, darker, more intimate place... with more compact/surround sound, not a big open area.

boat party was where it was at.

based on his productions before Saw Recordings went belly up I'm not surprised by this. He went from club music to mood music.

saw went belly up? when did this happen?

Posted by daeus on Jun-18-2009 15:54:

Sharam @ Matter in the London the other weekend, he played the same track for two hours, now I actually sound like my parents saying that, but this time it was true!

Scan down this page to Nick Chacona - Illuminato EP (release 63)

This is the last vinyl they released. When a huge prog label such as Saw goes from strictly vinyl to strictly MP3, that's my version of a label going out of business.

Oh so it didn't go belly up at all.

Posted by iammesol on Jun-18-2009 18:07:

Tom Stephan (so bad that we left, double beats, out of key acapellas over old tracks)
Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso (back in 2007 before I knew they loved microphones more than music)
Doc Martin
Lee Burridge (only the second time I saw him)
Jimmy Van M (played 4 Prydz tracks in 30 minutes before Eric actually went on)

I'm usually readily amused too, so these people were pretty gash.
