Clubs book and Djs play what the market demands....so the simplest way to get more of what it seems 5 pages of people want, is to stop going to techno nights and support other gendres, other promoters....just about anything Pat Boogie brings to the city should make you all happy....support his events...he has a new bi weekly deep event at School Bakery...every second Saturday...check it out!

That is the most uneducated edm comment I have read on here...especially the "uplifting" part...go to a party where only house music is being played and look at the faces of all the people on the dance floor and talk to me about uplifting...usually people are grinning from ear to ear and in a state of total happiness..

It's not all about bpm's.

I never used to be a Junkies or Joee Cons fan. In fact you can probably go back and find threads about me saying they suck balls.

As of recent, I will admit, I've been really impressed.

In fact, at Freedon Joee was the one that put the two step in my jive.

Sorry, they are no Yoji Mauro Picotto Richard Durand etc. but they don't wana be.

This is 2009, not 2003... get with the times. or get out.

1) You're hardly ever here, so I can't see how you would know.
2) A few thousand people consisting almost entirely of locals is not a "HUGE" following.
3) What exactly would I be jealous of / trying to keep up with?

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that I either (a) am in competition somehow, or (b) actually care who succeeds. They're just DJs, they just play at parties and I am just an occasional partygoer. The only thing that's a joke to me is people who militantly worship players in some drab, generic trend that will no doubt be pass� within a year or two.

As far as the local dj's..

Maybe it's because of Facebook and other portals like it but I have noticed a resurgence in the "groupie" movement. The locals are readily available and accessible to their "fans". What starts out as a groupie/dj relationship soon seems to turn into a "friendship".

The "groupies" will now defend their "friends" with everything they have, follow to them from club to club and generally blow smoke up their asses. I don't see this is a bad thing (everyone needs a following) and not gender specific, BUT what it does is create a very narrow and limited view for some people..

This city has seen many, many, great locals....and if someone wants to throw in my face that this is 2009 and not 2003 go ahead..but, our locals used to be a lot more varied and to me, had more artistic integrity...Any night of the week you could hear house, techno, progressive, tribal..etc. Nowadays, everything is cookie cutter and uninspired.

Don't mean to offend anyone.

My statement about the junkies and joee was directed in the point of which they are better than they used to be and a pleasure to listen to.

Reminiscing what the scene used to be is counter productive. The goal hear is to discuss the love for house in general. The scene is constantly changing and evolving. Go to parties that aren't techno, they are out there. If you don't like the locals you really have many other options.

I miss the past but I'm also having a great time here in the present.

Although, I've gotta say that the crowd has always had the ultimate say of what the dj usually ends up playing, but for the trained eye/ear it's easy to tell which dj's are educated and schooled in overall musical knowledge and those that aren't.

note: by musical knowledge I'm referring to variety of genres, styles, old & new, etc. not classical training as in an instrument.

last night at ministry they played this type of music. Deep soulfull house, it was pretty amazing to see this type of music at an afterhours.. i don't know who was playing but he was insane, a black dude mostly and some white guy with him..

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for the dark and grimey stuff in abundance out there today. But definately gotta love some smooth, sexy vocals and just good old fashioned house music. Nothing like it!

and people REALLY need to stop bashing others tastes...too much has already been said on this.

Love Life, Love music (In general)!
Have your opinion because it defines who you are but respect the others around you. Life is too short people.

And Cam will be playing there next week - can't wait for that type of night

Pat Boogie throws great parties and is one of the true house promoters. I'm sorry though I just can't get behind parties at School Bakery..something just feels wrong having the gear where a sandwich is being made a couple hours earlier.

Exactly. I love a lot of the locals but for the most part they all sound the same all of the time. Everyone associates Berlin with techno and minimal but when you are there you can go hear any different genre pretty much any night.

Hopefully the likes of Loopity Goofs, Mike Gleeson, and Dirty Dale continue to get some more gigs in better venues than School Bakery.
