lol so they don't have sufficient inventory to give it away for free, but they do for $15..

Posted by love_child on Aug-13-2009 12:56:

just sent this back

Dear Mr. Dixon, how is it that you cannot fulfill the subscription if it is free, yet if i send you $15, you magically have an extra copy to send me? I do not understand the logic behind that, nor do I feel it ethical on your part, to not uphold the offers that your company made. I'm rather disappointed to have been finally awarded my subscription twice, only to have the offer withdrawn twice by you.

Posted by dEsidEL on Aug-13-2009 14:42:

my response:

quote:

Hello Maxim,

I can understand that inventory is limited for the free offer, however at the same time you seem to have sufficient inventory at the $15 subscription rate.

I am obviously disappointed that I am unable to qualify for the free offer and feel that you should have removed the online offer once you were no longer able to accommodate additional demand, but instead interested parties continued to provide you with their personal information with no assurances that their request would honored. This obviously sets poor expectations with potential subscribers.

Kindly remove any personal information related to my request from your records. Thank you.

regards,
- XXXXXXX

I recieved the same email back and responded to Mark as well.
That's bullshit that they ran out of inventory, they just weren't prepared for the kind of response they received and that's not our fault.

Kind of like false advertising isn't it?

I got my issue in the mail today. although it looks like a cheaper version than the ones i had years back. its the paper quality i think... and there isnt as much content as the early 2000's.

Nonetheless, I'm happy I got it. Great throne material.

Seems like it, mine was posted the same day.

I just emailed Customer Service myself and was guaranteed a response within two days. Let's see if I get one.

Mr. Robinson,

While I am not unsympathetic to your inventory problems I must contend that they are, in fact, your problem. I do not recall any proviso of "while inventory is available;" moreover, I'm more then a little confused how a product can be out of inventory for the free promotion but there can be inventory of the very same product available at a $15.00 price point. It seems to me that Maxim is engaging in the every unethical (and in many jurisdictions illegal) practice of "bait and switch" marketing, which is deplorable to say the very least. Please consider this email to be your opportunity to rectify this situation.

Best regards,

Moral Hazard

here's the latest on my saga..

Seems like these guys are paid to say "apologize" 3 times in their response. I wonder if they even have any power to grant a 1 year free subscription at their discretion.

I'm not gonna bother replying.. just annoyed that I gave them my personal info for nothing

Posted by dEsidEL on Aug-14-2009 15:22:

after a quick Google of Mr. Robinson's name along with Maxim, it seems like this isn't the first time this problem has happened with them.

Last year a similar promo ran only with "overwhelming" demand and a cancellation of requests, but instead with a $5 subscription offer:

source:
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?p=21919893

what a load of crap.. total "bait and switch" marketing, and a means to harvest personal data of non-subscribers

Posted by Dior Homme on Aug-14-2009 15:30:

So none of you got the magazine? Should I be considered lucky? The magazine I got in the mail wasn't the greatest piece of maxim to begin with.

Posted by ChemEnhanced on Aug-14-2009 15:41:

I smell a class action lawsuit

(I would love to see some legal action come out of this against them)
