Holly shit, people. What about such 80's magic as house, techno, italo-disco, euro house, electro ...
For me, it was italo-disco (countless tracks to choose from, you name one), and also genres like these:
Detroit techno from 1980s:
Ambient-House:
Sexy shit:
Hi-NRG:
Early tech-house from 1989:
Classic House:
etc. etc. etc.
To many 80's tracks which influenced my taste, artists: A-Ha, Pet Shop Boys, U2, Duran Duran, Mr. Mister, Level42, Simple Minds, Tears for fear, Franky goes to Hollywood, Propaganda, Madonna, Fleetwood Mac and many more I guess.
But some tracks really I need to mention cause I loved them all:
S-Express-Theme from S-Express
M.A.R.S. - Pump Up The Volume
Paul Hardcastle - 19
Confetti's - The Sound Of C
Jean Michel Jarre - Fourth Rendez-Vous
Probably I forgot some...
i love so many 80's genres its impossible to say what defined my tastes!

My 80's Memories - Long Post
Excuse me while I geek out on 80's.
(I decided to see if I can remember all my favorite music in 80's - sorry for the long post)
Art of Noise's album In Visible Silence started me on my path toward EDM. The song, "Instruments of Darkness" was my favorite.
The stuff I loved in the 80's was mostly crap, but remember I was very young.
Pat Benatar - Love is a Battlefield, We Belong
Bananarama - Venus (a cheap cover, but awesome)
Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill album
Berlin - Take My Breath Away [remember Top Gun]
Blondie - Call Me, the Tide is High
Cutting Crew - Died in Your Arms
Dream Academy - Life in a Northern Town (amazing song)
Elvis Costello - Veronica
Irene Cara - Flashdance...What a Feeling
Cure - (Practically everything) esp. Like Cockatoos
Cyndy Lauper - Drive
Def Leppard - Pyromania album
Duran Duran - (so many) - Union of the Snake, Rio, Girls on Film
Eurhythmics - Here Comes the Rain Again
Peter Gabriel - Shock the Monkey, Biko, Red Rain, Big Time
Fixx - Red Skies at Night
J Geils Band - Centerfold, Freeze Frame
Genesis - Mama, Home by Sea, Land of Confusion
Golden Earring - Twilight Zone (I was obsessed with this song)
Don Henley - Boys of Summer
Whitney Houston - How Will I Know (great song, other stuff too overblown)
Human League - Fascination
Living Color - Cult of Personality
Madness - Our House
MARRS - Pump up the Volume
Men at Work - Down Under
Janet Jackson - Nasty, What Have You Done for Me Lately
Michael Jackson - Thriller album
Bangles - Eternal Flame, Manic Monday
Billy Joel - Pressure
Madonna - so many songs. My fave is the haunting Live to Tell
John Cougar Mellencamp - Pink Houses, Small Town
New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle

Talking Heads - (loved them so much) Once in a Lifetime
Tears for Fears - Shout
They Might Be Giants - all of their stuff
Thompson Twins - Hold me Now
Kim Wilde - Keep Me Hanging On (bad cover of Supremes song)
U2 - War album
World Party - Ship of Fools
Van Halen - Panama, Hot for Teacher, Jump
ZZ Top (oh yeah) - Legs
I must give a special mention to artists local to Philadelphia area that I loved in 80's.
Hall & Oates - <3
Hooters - They played my school before they got famous & I met them.
Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff - Hometown heroes.
