hhhmm, I think it is linked to wanting to have sex with your mother, and killing your father

Thats my standard Psychology answer to everything...

and I do not think it is linked. Not many good pro fighters are effed in the head IMO. I think there are more prominent traits that could be linked, like a high tolerance for pain, competitiveness, as well some social things...For instance, I think a lot of kids get into MMA because they get picked on or are 'outsiders'...not saying they go pro, but I bet some trickle through to the pros.

But then you take a cultural view on it and you see tons of Pride (pun intended) in Japan when it comes to fighting. And you see BJJ as a natinoal sport in Brazil, and Judo is pretty much a national sport in Russia...

that's my report, grademeplzktnx!

LOL i forgot i asked you that. i was stoned that nighgt

thanks for answering though

I think Boomer and Jay are right.

Goddamn I love MMA lol.

PS - Boomers - we're heading out to Vegas for my bday in Jan since it's the big 2-5 and his sisters birthday is the day before mine and she wants to make the trip... we're going along.

Can I count on some Boomers time? We can go look at trannys like we used to........ almost five years ago!

'purists' will bitch, but I'm glad. the drama got old in a big hurry, and any organization that can't afford to suspend one fighter from a single card doesn't need to stick around, anyway.

damn skippy.

i wish i had 5% of the cardio he does I have 6 inches and almost 50 lbs on him, yet i am pretty sure that in our "relationship" i would be forced to catch.

Posted by lenazi on Jul-26-2009 19:03:

also watching old ufc's this morning kind of makes me wish that some promotion would do the tournament thing again. Such an awesome format, even if i know it would never happen again.

from suspensions to 'get back out there'

yeah, no chance. besides, 60% of the guys out there can't even go 3 rounds as it stands.

Posted by lenazi on Jul-26-2009 19:11:

i know.

i just would like to see some upstart promotion in japan or some place that would do it. It makes for different strategies, like needing to finish the prelim fights fast to conserve juice.

can you imagine bj "tiny Buddha belly" penn actually needing to train for a fight?

Posted by shaw on Jul-26-2009 19:14:

you'd probably see about 1/10th the number of takedown attempts. would make a lot of the fights really boring if you got two guys who wanted to stand there & throw huge swings, but in the land of the blind...

Posted by lenazi on Jul-26-2009 19:17:

there are tons of fighters who can submit a guy quickly. look at mike swick.

Posted by shaw on Jul-26-2009 19:21:

yes, but would they be willing to risk draining their energy on the ground if they didn't get something done quickly?

[swick would, but he's an exception]

Posted by lenazi on Jul-26-2009 19:26:

yeah, i'm just bitching because i would pay to see the tourney. as is i only rent 1 out of every 2 or 3 ufcs because the cards bore me and i end up missing some great undercrad fights that i want to see, because they don't show them Pisses me off.

this card bores me.

swick is the only person i have ever seen land a flying guillotine. awesomeness.

taught my ex some BJJ. one day, i said something she didn't like. she was short... came running at me. i was like WTF is she gonna do? she jumped off from a chair, and onto me, and flying guillotined me. i didn't she'd get it... then i had to tap :s

Renzo Gracie landed one on Miletich once i believe. not EXACTLY flying, but he landed it from standing position, closed guard, and finished it hanging off of Pat, without going to the ground.

Flying armbar > Flying guillotine, but both are soooooo sick

Posted by Inertia on Jul-27-2009 01:29:

there's only one MMA gym in my country. i knew it had opened up, but didn't know where it was, and only the few people who had trained BJJ before did.

this is the video i found on youtube, which ultimately led me to the poster of it, who invited me to my first class:

damnit, when youtube went widescreen, this video got all choppy

flying heel hook

thread/

Posted by Inertia on Jul-27-2009 01:36:

technically that's a flying scissor INTO a heelhook, but i'll let that pass.

Posted by Inertia on Jul-27-2009 04:40:

but the more i watch japanese promotions, the more i have to think about the rules...

headstomps? yes.
roids? please.
elbows? NEVAR!

i mean, srsly.

Yeah, they usually do a minimum of two per year. However, they aren't exactly one night tournaments like the old UFC. The preliminary round(s) occur on separate cards, and only the semifinals and finals are done on the same night.

Their welterweight tournament wrapped up a week ago, with Marius Zaromskis scoring two improbable upsets by high kick knockout. It was a great finish to the tournament, though the rest of that card was fairly lackluster.

They have two tournaments in progress, a featherweight tournament and a rather silly open weight "super hulk" tournament (in which 7'2" Korean giant Hong Man Choi beat Jose Canseco in the first round...) The final two rounds of both tournaments will occur on their Oct. 6 card, which will probably turn up on HDNet at some point (it may be broadcast live on HDNet as well, although that would be in the wee hours of the morning in North America.)

In other Japanese tournament action, the final two rounds of the World Victory Road featherweight tournament are coming up on Aug. 2 at Sengoku 9. The tournament is probably Hatsu Hioki's to lose, but Marlon Sandro is very dangerous and Michihiro Omigawa has looked impressive since dropping down to welterweight. I believe this will also be available on HDNet.

I think UFC pride fighting is a perfect environment for you to experience a meaningful failure.
