Nothing worse than that, . That stuff pisses me off more than a headliner sucking.

It shows either the inexperience or the lack of research by the promoter and/or opening DJ. Hard to say who....I know of openers who are instructed how they shoudl play for the headliner but that message goes in one year and right out the other. Eithe way, that stuff always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

yep, Avenue 66 banged it too much. we told him to spin deep house or chicago house or deep tech. last time he spun for us, once he went funk, the other he went chicago house, but I guess he got too excited for this one. we even put the music down from the turbo system, not through the mixer since he kept on putting it up and redlining it, and he was playing a bit too hard.

yep, maybe we are inexperienced we never claim to be perfect but we always try our best!

I had blast on Friday. I'm so glad I went cause I saw a lot of old friends!!! It was like parting back in the good old days. hahaha

Anyhow, I thought Holden was fucken awesome. My only problem last night was that people kept taking pix of my license plate! lol... g I wonder why? lol Anyhow, that wasn't it, my issue was with the sound. Sometimes it sounded good, and sometimes it sounded bad. There was time where my ears were literary hurting. No joke. Good thing I ended up taking ear plugs and those came in handy. Otherwise, I had a blast! Good job guys!

You can't ever really tell a DJ what to play, they're not going to listen. You have to just find a DJ that knows what he's doing.

nope, but he was perfect before so musically, we planned it as per what he normally plays...never saw him play that way ever...

in any case, thanks for everybody who came out.

apologies for the wait in line, we were at capacity at 11pm.

as King King staff mentioned, they've never seem that successful a party for the past 3 years.

so we thank everybody for their continuous support for INCOGNITO, not only last Friday but the last 1st, 3rd and 5th Fridays the past few months!

cheers to you!

You should shit in a FedEx box and send it to him. That'll learn him!

The opening guy did play a bit too funky and hard. We went out and got food while he was playing though and got back in time to catch Franco play.

Glad he calmed it down a bit.

James was amazing though. It's so nice to see a DJ completely focused on his craft instead of jumping all over the place like an idiot.

He let his music do the talking as every DJ should.

If anyone can name off some songs he dropped that night please do.

MFA - The Difference It Makes
Fuck Buttons - Sweet Love For Planet Earth (Andrew Weatherall Remix)
And I think he played Margot - Goblin if I remember correctly.

Would love to know the first and especially last track he played.

I totally respect this statement. An honest, sensable reply in response.

That said, it's doesn't even look to be mainly your fault....you had expectations from him from a gig before and he was told what to play and went outta control! I can't stand it when an opener isn't responsible on his own end. Always feel openers should find a couple of the most recent mixes from the headliner, preferably a live set, and get an idea of to progress into him. Or use that in combination with the instructions he's given.

nope! james holden at vanguard, a while back, told him to play Lump and he did. :P

he played these for sure:

Alden Tyrell - Disco Lunar Module
Nathan Fake - The Turtle
MIT - Rauch (Luke Abbott Remix)

i was pretty trashed that night so i don't remember much lol.

He's talking about the opener.

The DJ has a JOB to do. It's not completely about him playing what he wants to play. He has a JOB and that's more important.

Anyhow, clubs/promoters just need to make the opener realize this when he's offered the spot. If he doesn't want the "job" then he can simply decline.

Then at some point the trust will be there between organizer and opener and so you can just trust the opener to do what's right w/o having to tell him anymore.

Awesome.

Pretty sure he played Wesley Matsell - Bernwer as well.

Also definitely played this.

Great party last Friday from the Incognito Family at King King, I'm glad I got there early and didn't have to deal with that long ass line LOL. Good set by Franco too but I wasn't feeling James Holden though. Personally he was playing too mellow and spacey for me...killed by buzz
But great job nonetheless from Incognito, party was poppin' yo!

Incognito's residents are almost always better than their headliners. I won't mention any names but the last time I was at Incognito the headliners killed my buzz too so I left. The only exception is Jesse Saunders. Jesse had an amazing set when he played at Incognito a few months back.
