Rediculous amounts of fun... I had a blast... almost all the DJ's were good. Was really cool I got to check out a lotta guys I more than likely wouldn't go out to a club and see and was pretty impressed.

Angello was damn good never saw him before.

Saw some Victor Calderone for the first time too... If you like the same 8 bars on repeat for 7 minutes at a time, here's the DJ for you.

Markus played a nasty set, slipped on the mixing a few times but nothing horrible.

Ferry... I dunno, I felt like the energy dropped when he came on (probably cuz the speakers went out on the left side). I still enjoyed all his tracks but I think it was a little overkill. I'm sure he was playing for the majority of fans there that probably haven't seen him 1,000 times and are looking forward to hearing all those tracks.

Guetta: "ARE YOU READY FOR SOME SEXY FRENCH HOUSE!!!"

Me: -exit-

ATB: Sick... he played a bangin set, the crowd was so fucking into him it was nuts. I had a great time. Funny how he kept teasin' 9 PM... He seemed really humbled at the end when everyone was chearing him on for an encore... could tell he really wanted to play another but Made cut him off. He hung around to sign some autographs and shit, real friendly guy. Props.

I left as soon as Rock Your Body was ending.

That felt like the longest walk to James Holden. I couldn't get there fast enough

me too!! LOL

as for ferry I completely agree. (and mind you I dont hate on ANYONE for their opinion of ferry, we all have tastes and I dont feel anyone needs to apologize for who they like or dislike!!)

personally I love ferry's tunes but I totally get why people say he played his own tracks, etc. I think it was more strategic: he played the "popular-sing-along" tunes for the massives, and the people who dont necessarily hear him play all the time (seriously, out of the thousands of people there, I could tell that the armin and ferry crowds BOTH were unexperienced listeners).

Then Ferry brought the A-game for Pacha. Played a few of his tracks to start of but completely ROCKED the house with driving techy SLAMMIN shit for the rest of the set. full high-energy, just wild, balistic and just MENTAL for the afterparty crowd.

He probably knew that EZ was full of newbs, and the afterparty would be full of ferry-followers who didnt wanna hear "Punk" for the thousandth time.... and knew that he needed a lot of energy to keep us going after 2 days straight! Personally, while we may not all like it, I think he played the crowds right based on who he knew he would be playing for.

Dont hate the player, hate the game.

That shit irritated me! It was you? I thought it was someone you sent to me to ask me for afterparty tix

BTW, Sunday I met up with an Argentinean friend who was soooo looking forward to Guetta, I LOL'd so hard, he changed his mind and stayed for Richie

Wow, overall such a great time. Menno's set was hand's down the best set of the day. My personal highlight was when he dropped Randy Katana- The Hype and the crowd just went nuts!!

I thought Markus's set was really good as well, but a lil predictable at the end. All in all though, i was not dissapointed by Markus.

Ferry on the other hand, what a load of garbage. I was really dissapointed that he just whored out his own productions for an hour and a half. I like all of the songs he played but would have preffered to heard like 2 or 3 of them instead of all 15 or so. It just seemed like he was doing a promo for his afterparty. My friend who had never seen ferry thought ht was good but I was expecting mroe from him.

ATB was a pleasent surprise to me. Never seen or heard him before but i really liked what he playing, plus the lazers were sooo sick.
Caught the tail end of Holden as well. Some good tunes but a little to ambient for me.

Caught the 2nd half of Jerome's set, which was great. Also caught some of Desyn's set, which was sick. I dont remember if it was the first half or second half but man, he threw it down.

Sat down and ate durring Angello's set, which worked out nice...groovy house music ftw.

I only had a few complaints: first, the Beers were mad expensive (but the water was cheap!). And the water taxi screwed us over. we bought tickets for the 10:40 taxi, thinking we could get back to grand central for an 11:40 train. We got in line at 10:30 and didnt board the ship till 11 and we didnt depart until 11:30ish...complete BS if you ask me. They had a schedule, they should stick to it.

OTher than that, i thought the food was excellent for festival food (burgers were wicked good!) Sound and lights were on point and the weather held out.

going from the front of the main stage all the way out and listening to that awful track made me sing along, except my lyrics were "when boredom takes over"

Did anybody catch Markus set ? What happen to the cd players
he was piss at the dude who set the cd players .

Posted by Zack Roth on Sep-08-2009 20:56:

Had a blast on Sunday. We got to Randall's Island around 4, stayed til 11. My reviews on everyone I saw....

Josh Gabriel
From what I heard, he was awesome. A lot of people have sort of lost touch with him since his split with Dave Dresden. He's dropped a lot of the proggier stuff in leiu of more techy music. I loved what I heard.

Steve Angello
He played a great festival set...really energetic, big house music.

Desyn Masiello
I normally love the guy's music. I can't say I was the biggest fan of his D n' B set. I appreciate the fact that he switched things up. But he single-handedly cleared out most of the Riverside tent. Thats sort of annoying guys like Holden and Fake on after him, who had to play to small crowds. Even ATB played to a pretty small crowd.

Adam Beyer
I liked his set from what I heard. Played some serious bangers, crowd seemed into him.

Markus Schulz
I heard most of his set from afar. I didn't catch any of his equipment malfunctions, but the crowd seemed into him

Holden / Fake
I love James Holden's musical taste as a dj. I wasn't impressed with his mixing, but he had a nice vibe going on by the river...sort of techy, sort of trancey (not in the epic sense). Again, not much of a crowd in the tent while he played. I think that had a lot to do with Desyn though.

Victor / Hawtin
I kind of got the impression that Calderone sort of owned the Sunday School tent. He is obviously based out on NYC, and the crowd was behind him more than any other dj I thought. Caught the first few minutes of Hawtin, and he drew a big reaction from the crowd.

ATB
Not bad at all. Was in the Sunday School tent when he dropped Ecstasy, so went over to check him out until close. Like I said, not bad at all...he plays, what I can best describe as "pleasant trance music." I've never really heard him going on a nasty tear where he drops nasty bombs. But it was pleasant to hear as a closing set.

Thats about it. Awesome event all around. Made deserves a huge collective pat on the back from the NYC club scene for putting this on, and executing it to a 'T'. I can't even imagine the amount of work / stress that went into it. I only hope they do it again next year.

first steve angello is ridiculous and always is so very glad he brought it to EZ...too bad it wasn't recorded

second markus had problems with the equipment, not sure what exactly happened but not his fault.

unfortunately didn't run into as many people as i thought i would but i did meet a lot of new people . i stayed in vip for a while but honestly there were two "perks" one was the "nicer" bathrooms and second was that i got to talk to markus before his set but those two things didn't make up for the big mark up. overall it was a fantastic event and made gets mad kudos for carrying this out, very impressive.

ok so i didn't see this thread ; but whatever - day two was so awesome.

this whole experience was amazing for me; first kind of outdoor music thing i've ever done. never been to ultra. so this was my first. and i loved it all. both days were great. the ending of Ferry was great. and then of course sexy french house came on and i walked away. ATB was so slick. so good. awesome. i'm surprised there weren't more people.

this was the shit; and i hope it comes back next year. i'll be there in a heartbeat.

I'll be posting my videos on youtube soon. Ferry playing Rock Your Body, Rock was my highlight of the night. I had this gut feeling he was going to play it.

I wasn't too crazy about his set, but he did it strategically. This is his first time (I believe) playing to the largest crowd he ever had in New York. So playing most of his tracks off his TIABM album to that massive crowd was a smart move marketing wise.

Man, too much black stuff in my nose. Damn dirt!
