My girlfriend and I always purposely misname these dime a dozen bands when they come on the radio.

Daughtry = Nickleback = Puddle of Mudd = 3 Doors Down = Kings of Leon

All the same shit...boring, uninspired shit.

I fell for the hype when the new Kings of Leon album dropped. Tried to get into them for about a week after hearing Sex is on Fire (that song is win), but it was no use. All they're tracks are exactly the same (excluding Sex is on Fire, of course).

And I think Coldplay started off as an amazing band. "Parachutes" still gets the replay every now and then. Everything after that though has been mediocre, but still enjoyable.

And on that note, "Anthem Rock" has gotten tiring as a whole. I've explored more into the Space/Experimental/Indie rock groups and they've been much more enjoyable.

Circa Survive
The Mars Volta
Brand New
Maps & Atlases
Minus The Bear
Rx Bandits
As Tall As Lions
Portugal. The Man
The Dear Hunter
This Town Needs Guns

All amazing bands.

Some of there stuff is good. Overplayed? Yeah, but still alright.

Puddle of Mudd and 3 Doors Down. I forgot about them.

What about Alien Ant Farm, Blink 182 and Jimmy Eat World?

It's only fair to say that America produces the worst music in the world. I would rather listen to Cantonese pop than some of the shit I hear coming from that country.

Brand New have the jams...not a fan of "The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me"?

One of my favorite albums.

Has anybody here actually heard anything other than their new album? It seems that is usually the case when it becomes popular to hate a band for being too played out. Some of the comparisons here really have me scratching my head. If anything, I've always thought they sound most like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or The Black Angels.

Unfortunately, it's what they're best known for. Aha Shake Heartbreak was great, and Because of the Times was also pretty damn good. I think most people just bitch about their new stuff because it's played on the radio a lot and it gets kind of annoying when they're not supposed to be a mainstream band. I think they have a good sound, but too many people got sick of their new stuff, and rightfully so, a majority of it isn't as good as their old stuff. That's pretty much the same with most bands, Green Day, Coldplay, AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. If this album makes Kings of Leon die out, then so be it, but they ended up with a pretty decent career.

Deja Entendu is... alright. Their newer one was much better imo.

they remind me of freshman year highschool listening to homegrown, finch, taking back sunday and glassjaw. no hate just didn't think it'd be brought up

Those are both great records, and they had very distinct sounds. Much more blues than stadium rock, which is what people seem to hate.

Lets not confuse the difference between Grundge and Punk

Nirvana was a PUNK band....Bleech was a punk album

who was talking about bleach? Nevermind is what made the grunge "movement" start. Other bands had that sound before, but the commercial success of that album is what launched the careers of similar artists and made plaid shirts go from 5$ to 50$ almost overnight.

Blondie did punk too, but would you call her punk? An artist usually gets defined by their most lasting work, not their first.

Not to mention grunge and punk were always related...grunge taking what it wanted from the punk arena and packaging it as its own.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-18-2009 15:10:

also zip i don't listen to the radio and made my impression on my first experience with them ever. Had i heard them 20 times on the radio i would deffo hate them more, because it is recycled tripe.

maybe they can bring rednecks and 17 year old girls together

not only nirvana. also pearl jam's ten. they made grunge a commercial success. however, they did not coin the term 'grunge'.

the grunge "movement" as you call it, was started by mudhoney who liked to call themselves a grunge band and defined as the same during interviews.

actually nirvana took a lot of methodologies from the pixies, so i guess the pixies started it and nirvana just developed...

Oh fuck yeah, my brutha. Glassjaw actually has a new album due out soon, I think.

once again reading comprehension.

nirvana made it big, i didn't say that made it. pearl jam rode nirvana's coat tails. It is a shame that bands like sonic youth never quite got there, because they did it before kurt cobain did.

The seattle sound was huge...you didn't even have to be good for awhile, only be able to play 3 or 4 power chords, scream into a mic and be from that city.

just so you are aware. ten and nevermind came out the same year. pearl jam didn't ride no nirvana's tail.

Posted by lenazi on Sep-18-2009 17:51:

which album sold more and was considered the one that started the craze?

hint: it was not an album named after a number.

i'm not even saying which one was better, only stating facts.

Posted by DJ_Lord on Sep-18-2009 17:57:

sorry to break it to ya but...

Ten (1991): 9.5 million

vs

Nevermind (1991): 8.5 million
