That Persuader track is some sick shit. Good stuff all around.

Originally posted by woscar's alt I finally listened to this, Clovis. Awesome, awesome stuff. Like Adam and others have said, the mixing is no problem at all. It's hard to transition between the kind of tracks that you used in this set, specially during the earlier portion and you pulled it off very well. Also agree with Adam that the star of the show is your track selection (as always). Your sense of what to play, when to play it, and where to play it is truly remarkable. You really hit the nail on the head with the set you played to open for Lee and Lawler at Avalon and you did the same here. Two completely different settings, handled perfectly. Another thing I've always said (specially about Jay and his sets), is that one of the marks of a great DJ is that he/she can make me enjoy music that I didn't enjoy the first time around. For example, I had already heard "Isch" before and I even bought it when it came out, but I still wasn't too fond of it. However, in the context of this set it sounds amazing and you just made me want to go play around with it. ![]() Also, I really, really liked "Rene". It's fresh, classy, and groovy. Keep doing stuff like this, I love it! When is it coming out?
I thought the set started well, I enjoyed hearing The Black Dog - Invisible Things (Mescalitos Mix) outside of Gu:24/7 for a change and Raw Cuts #5 is my favourite out the MCDE tracks and always seems to go down well. I thought things went down hill a little bit until Oasis Nine came on. It finished pretty strongly though with Isch and We All, this would have set up Magda quite well I'm guessing.
Overall though it had a decent groove which is key for a warmup.
Listened to this 3 times this morning while studying for an exam, really relaxed me. "Gestures" was my favorite, thanks for that tune. "Rene" is really good too, looks like we don't have a Howells on our hands
Might be my own lack of exploring, but this style is rarely heard by me. Maybe a single track of similar style will be used as an opener, but to build majority of a set with them and have it go somewhere, that's pretty impressive. I would love to hear this at a chill spot like what you guys have going.
Who are you influences on this style?

nice, love the touane and nobody tracks. others I am not familiar with but will check.
wow man reaaaally ace set!
loved when the intro of Raw Cuts 5 was over Gestures
and the other tracks were nice funky bass with good melodies and dubby percussion (and cool talking samples)
win, imo.
i have to get a ton of these tracks now
Really enjoyed that one, nice vibe!
Fav track was the one from Lowtec, wantlisted.
Fantastic work, man. An epitome of where I'm at musically. All criticism I can offer is the transition into the Sprinkles track was little awkward but in no way did it ruin it for me. Rad stuff.
edit: oh, and Rene is a killer. Get that shit released NAO.

Originally posted by wotyzoid That's shouldn't be too much of a headache, it's really good. If anything start with a smaller label and work your way up, seems like you have potential in the studio and plenty of hook ups. Was it mostly sampled?
send me a PM with download link to the track
This is superb. Only things I didn't like much were tracks 5, 14 and... Rene. Don't take it personally on Rene, it's very well done, I'm just not much into remakes of 1920s french folk.
The best thing about this is that it gave me some leads into more music which is just as good. Can't believe I never knew about those old Moodymann tunes! Got me into exploring more the Mark E catalog too and that's some class stuff going on there.

Auto-beatmatching does not guarantee that everything will sound perfect
I cant imagine anyone successfully using auto beatmatching without shit eventually skipping around and wrecking. Unless they are mixing easy to mix percussive heavy tech house or minimal, it might be possible...but I do not trust auto beatmatchin on Traktor at all, especially not on Traktor 1, which is what I use currently. Maybe if you sat there and tested two tracks mixing into eachother a few times and you have a set memorized in this way, then it might work, but who does that for hundreds of tracks? lol
Althought Traktor makes beatmatching easier, there is still some finesse involved with getting things to beatmatch properly. Sometimes I think mixing Vinyl or CDs is easier than Traktor, you dont have to worry about those erratic skips when the locked beatmatch goes haywire, but then again nothing beats Traktor's accessibility.
