lol. thanks for the props.

Toronto is a difficult city...Trance has always been easy to make fun of for locals here, even back in the old trance days. The assumption is that Trance is a 'starter' genre and anyone with any EDM 'taste'/experience will have moved on to something else. Years ago I used to get ppl asking me what I was doing at a Techno party thinking I only liked Trance or something -- as if you can't enjoy both.

There is still a lot of demand for Trance in Toronto however the same crop of big DJs keep pumping out lackluster sets that are 'safe'. Compounding that is most labels that push a track with elements of Trance blended with House/Techno are always going to accentuate the House/Techno parts so as to not be labelled as Trance. Oddly enough, at any House/Techno event it's the tracks with buildups that get the most hype from the crowd but yet it'll be some of those same people that bitch about Trance buildups... Funnier still, is when some of those same people are the ones who had their hands/glowsticks in the air years ago to Trance DJs and think everyone else has forgot about that. I won't name names, lol.

I frequent pretty much equal amounts of parties for trance and other genres, if not more for other genres (this mostly being b/c there's not many trance events booked anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't love other genres. In fact 2 of my top 3 parties of the summer were tribal parties, not including DEMF which was techno). Platform parties are actually some of my fave events, but thats ok I found his posts funny so I'm not feeling alienated.

We need a summer outdoor electronic music festival in Toronto.
I'm sure it would be a success, and bring out some of the dj's we are talking about.

I'm not the biggest fan of most trance but if trance is dead then how is it that the biggest names in DJing are trance DJs.

Posted by PoLskA on Oct-03-2009 14:37:

im fortunate im close to Chicago...
and Windsor because Remo and Renaldo @ Boom Boom Room bring in some awesome talent...

plus Tom here in Detroit gets us some great shows as well...

i have John Acquaviva, Above & Beyond and Deadmau5 coming to the D, Joris Voorn and Carl Cox coming to Windsor...
and ATB in Chicago, which is a few hrs away...
cant complain...

Wow, it looks like there are finally some people that are fed up with the scene is Toronto ... it's good to see, i've been fed up with it for years. Toronto has basically taken a few steps back, instead of forward with regards to party promotion and the talent that is coming up here. Sure, we get Ferry, Armin, and SVD (who i think is crap, but thats just my opinion). I'd love to see some proper hard trance dj's come to Toronto, like Christopher Lawrence @ freakin on Hallowe'en. Toronto is dominated by MTV culture, kids listening to music now, listen to that shite on the radio, and they just get completely brainwashed by that crap, and it's only gonna get worse! For some reason music with no energy and no soul is what is popular now .

Holland is a great alternative! Good luck bringing that attitude and lifestyle here, they've been doing it for years, we have SOME catching up to do. If you've never been to one of the music festivals in Holland, i highly recommend going! Preferably Defqon 1 .
