-- Why is trance embarrasing?

I seem to have struck a nerve there. Did you used to have a shit coat?
I could afford one, so I used a blanket with a hole for the head.

| Originally posted by StalkerElmo i find that most people stereotype trance with drugs, raves, happy hardcore noises, loud basses, no vocals, and pure repetition. it's in fact the exact opposite of what trance is. well, at least for me. i think in order to listen to trance takes a patient mind, a well-tuned ear, and an open mind for listening to music that is often +5-8 minutes longer than your typical 3-4 minute song. so for me, i love to talk to others about my liking for trance. |

| You said "while the clueless idiots who should have stuck with pop/rock continue listening to trance". I guess many of those idiots just listen trance because they enjoy dancing and have fun. Probably they only listen it in the weekends. |

Some of the best DJ's I've seen live are the ones who surprise me and play songs I wouldn't have expected or expected to be played at a club. Again just my opinion. Think for a second because I never said that. I listen to all forms of electronic music and still trance. Not as much as I once did but it's just not for me anymore is all. I still come across a trance tune here and there that I enjoy. Generally though I don't feel embarrassed to say I enjoy trance. It just wouldn't be the first choice if someone asked me what kind of electronic dance music I enjoy most. |
because distancing yourself away from trance is another way to look cool and more underground in the eyes of the public after the whole trance train has been derailed.
just like frequently releasing public statements that "99% of all EDM produced is shit". just a few simple PR tricks. you get to be on top of the fashion wave is you are smart enough to shit on the previous trend first
you can see it happening again and again and again...
^^
Does looking through that make one cool?
I'll give you a few reasons
1. it's painted itself into a musical corner. trance is unmatched in terms of how insular it is as a genre (well, maybe comparable to buddy-genres like hardstyle). the "odd kid" indeed.
2. it's overly dramatic in a naive way. the endless breakdowns and "take you on a journey" crap isn't gonna fly outside its own niche, sorry. see my first point.
if you've extensively listened to, well, anything else, none of this should come as a surprise to you.

You don't think C02 pollution actually means anything?
I think all we are doing to change things won't help, it's like we say, just a tiny drop on a large glowing plate.
Everyone who knows how much CO2 is stored only at Greenland underneath the ice knows our influence is very limited. And this ice is melting.
I also don't believe global warming is something we had influence on. It happened before and there was not industry back then.
I bet sun activity has much more influence on things, but thats a far away story...
But it's also a bit off topic I guess.
By the way, cows produce lots of gas, but what can me more green than a fucking cow which only eats grass?
That's kind of beside the point that C02 takes hundreds of years to actually be recycled out of the atmosphere. Meaning, as we continue to just dump tons and tons of it year after year, well beyond what natural sources would actually produce, it is going to eventually lead to a problem.
Nice can of worms you opened there. ![]()

In other news, 9/11 was an inside job.
And Deadmau5.
True, but if huge countries like China keep growing that fast all we do won't actually help a lot. The environment isn't really at their top ten list of priorities.
At least Holland is too small for anything. We can be an example, but that's about it I guess.
Electric cars should be the sollution, but what does it take to produce and recycle all those batteries?
I guess that downsizing engines which now slowly is starting in the US will help more in a short period of time.
Bye bye V8 and welcome turbo chargers.
But driving a 1.4 turbo compared to a V8 is not really cool yet allthough it's a lot cheaper, lighter, greener and even can produce the same or more kw (or hp).
So it's not cool yet to show critism, but it's cool to drive an electric car next to your Hummer...

Haha, I'll jump outta that topic, not worth pursuing a global warming / environmental debate in a trance thread.
