I call bullshit. There's no way you can possibly know that unless you are one of said animals.

Put them in front of a mirror. The result will be they won't even know it's them in the mirror. They are not aware of oneself. Therefore, they cannot possibly understand their inevitable death. Beings such as monkeys, hominids, dogs, dolphins, and whales do pass the mirror test, and so can be said to be aware of oneself. Awareness of oneself should be the deciding factor here. Dolphins have been known to commit suicide and experience depression. An animal with this level of self-awareness should not be slaughtered.

I mean as long as things are killed in a controlled way it is no more or less morally reprehensible right? |
Ok first of all you are completely retarded linking killing of animals for food, whatever they may be, to killing of humans for genocide. That doesn't even make sense! I might as well compare the use of Bug zappers to the dolphin slaughter in Japan, at least it would make more sense than your argument.

Interestingly, children under the age of 18 months do not pass this mirror test either; subsequently, you must contend that the slaughter of infants is acceptable.
*** note - I don't give a rat's ass about animals... hell, I'd kill a dolphin for shits and giggles... just pointing out the logical inconsistancy in your argument.

We'r not talking about babies or newborn animals/humans. We'r talking about adult beings.

No, no, no... you argued that if they don't meet the mirror test their fair game. Well Comrade, I say that you're a heartless bastard... entirely in keeping with your alter ego. Well played.

most dolphin species are listed as least concern in the conservatoinal status ranking (for the thousandth time im mentioning this)
All species living on earth today have experienced some sort of evoultion with regards to millions of years. So the more diverse the species the more we should rank it as higher to conserve?
I would say conservation should depend on abbundance

that isn't justification for their destiny. They were born and raised initially as wild animals. simply because it was convenient to use these animals we did so. It could have been the same with dolphins.
An analogous statement would be "negro's were raised to be slaves"
| quote: |
the dolphines were not. If they raised them to be slaughtered then I am all for it. |
that is what my point is. It is no different then slaughtering cows. If they euthanised the animals in a "humane" manner it technically should be permissible.
My personal point of view is though that we already have enough animals on our platter. Its morally wrong to mass slaughter them and in the end we are allowing ourselves to evolve a great dependency on varieties of foods.

No, you'r just taking my argument to the extreme. It's not an either/or black and white proposition. I think it's called a straw man argument.

Less genetic diversity, less chance of survival. No longer is it the strongest survive, but who was lucky enough to escape the human nets.

less genetic diversity usually means a stronger more viable species. IF it doesnt have to change to adapt it will most likely survive longer.
if the species is not endangered i don't see your argument working.

Gre Frulein, Sturm-Verbot-Fhrer, What we can do is to slaughter the children of eastern Japan to work on Wii and Xbox Live, with his talk of change scam on me and green sequins, Japan, China and Korea do not think of Xbox Live

Luck is not a new factor in a species' survival, Krypton.
There seems to be a lot of moral cherry-picking here... all the more reason to dismiss morals entirely. It's the dolphins' own fault they couldn't defend themselves! SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST, NO?
