-- Theories on why so few women follow EDM?
Pages (4): « 1 2 [3] 4 »
Haha, my gf says that all she can think about in dance music is the kick drum because it's so loud. Part of the loudness contest in dance music is probably this desire to have the biggest, most skull-shattering kick drum in every track.

| Originally posted by Kismet7 To add to that, women are some of the most hardcore EDM fans you will find. I know women who go to their favorite DJs shows religously, they are actually the most loyal fans. They seem to build an attachment, the DJ mesmerizes them at a show and they're hooked. And the OP is ignorant as usual, he thinks all EDM music is instrumental, therefore women dont like it...when the genre he is into is full of vocal tracks |

why does it matter? since everyone's going on about how "into EDM" they are...you should be at events for the music, not for the girls.
second: i think it's because girls don't get attention at trance events. it's not like an RnB club where all the guys want to grind on you and you get to feel pretty. i was at above & beyond in new york on saturday night, and so many girls were visibly frustrated by the fact that all the guys were so into the music that they wouldn't notice a half-dressed girl.
that said, i know quite a few girls who love listening to trance - it can be very sentimental music. it's just going to a trance event which is a bit unpopular.

The only "frustration" I've ever heard expressed from a girl at a trance event (or really any less-mainstream club event) has been over nearly getting gang-raped by the monstrous sausage-fest. I can actually think of one good reason why so many women aren't that into trance music or producers: they're probably accustomed to the scene being full of hyper-introverted anti-social boys who have these weird warped stereotypical, borderline-misogynystic ideas about girls, and who stubbornly maintain this bizarre pretense of a deep love affair with the music when in reality they're just really high and/or afraid to socialize. Dance music is about having fun. It's not about staring off into space while imagining yourself to be on a spiritual journey. That's what acid is for. |
Digi, thats ur opinion, I am always on spiritual journey when listening to trance, thats why I started producing it in the first place, I wanna create that state of mind for others to enjoy also. Sorry for you if you can't experience that without acid. ;-)
dude, bitches love EDM man. i don't know a single girl who doesn't at least like the commercial stuff, ie Daft Punk, cascada, etc.

It really does depend on the girlies !
When i was at college and uni studying music technology there where loads of girlies studying it also. Most of them where either in a band, sung or business minded.
Also in psytrance there are loads of female listeners and quite a few producers.
My gf is classically trained in piano, understands electronic engineering, loves nothing better than to solder, has a HND in Music Technology and is now at this very moment making her first tune with me.
SO i dont see what it is that your saying, although i also understand i am in a very unique place.
I also have to state that her father is an Engineer and she spent lots of time being interested in what he was doing when she was younger, now she has similar types of interests, although she loves girly things also, like knitting :O
A final note, she has 2 older sisters who never paid any attention to what her engineer father was doing and neither of them like dance music, 1 is a fashion designer and the other is a dancer/music composer/singer/songwriter so take from that what you will.

I think instead of putting Trance in the OP, I should have written "techno"
I don't know. Music is very, very close to me. I couldn't live and commit to somebody who wasn't interested in it (the interest can develop as the relationship progresses....i'm not ignorig women for their lack of musical culture in comparison to the world's male population)
I'm the type of person that want my partner to have an important hobby (almost an inspiration, and even if I know it will never happe), I'd want to learn about it and do it with them sometimes even. Painting pictures, Community services. Visiting different places around the world and vacations to places they are very interested in, etc. I guess I am just an unselfish person (and I wish I wasn't.)
Finally I'll leave a quote that that really expressed my approach to things. Much more eloquently than I can for sure.
Who is the happiest of men? He who values the merits of others, and in their pleasure takes joy, even as though 'twere his own. ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

| Originally posted by Fledz I love how you just can't wait to take a stab at trance whenever you get a chance. FYI, when A&B were here last year the split was easily 50/50 and everyone was loving it. So much in fact, that the arena started getting too full because people were leaving other stages (with the likes of Sasha) to go listen to them. I agree that house seems to draw more women because it is soulful and more funky, but to make such absurd generalisations about trance while debating others is frankly laughable. Drop the hate already. We get it, you don't like modern trance. Have a cookie. |
