Granted, this doesn't explain why the English on TA are lagging so far behind the Americans.

To be honest that applies for any language - and I never sucked that hard in Finnish either.

True, but if you have any type of schooling below the university level, you're usually taught enough to be at least proficient.

Maybe people are just lazy? Even then, you're typing, it's honestly not hard.

Yeah but don't you guys have english class in school? Write papers, essays, read books?

Even the basic US high school english classes require some level of writing and reading for several years.

It seems like a lot of English type and write phonetically on the internet.

Posted by woscar on Nov-05-2009 20:51:

Phonetics or not, spelling 'no' instead of 'know' is just retarded.

This is just some ad hoc social theorising bullshit from the top of my head, but a lot of people who like dance music in the UK are definitely working class. They probably don't hold down jobs that requires literacy skills and they probably didn't get good educations at good schools.

Perhaps the demographic for electronic music in other countries is more middle-class, because it's more of a niche, counter-culture thing, where as in the UK it's more popular grass-roots culture.

According to his profile he is in IT.

I think it's mostly laziness rather than education/social level. I know A LOT of people that are graduated lawyers/doctors/engineers from the best and most expensive schools in the country and still can't write a sentence to save their lives. In their native language. Don't even get me started on how they write in English, lol.

Boy did this ever go off topic fast.

He's not trying to change the world. He's trying to revive nights worth actually going to.

In his blog entry that Existo copy-pasta'd the other day, he was banging on about the lack of superclubs catering for specialist crowds. That's your problem right there, J00Fy. Take a pay cut and play smaller venues and you'll get specialist crowds. Play bigger clubs and you get the lowest common denominator, because it's where the profit is.

Psy-trance doesn't work in small clubs, end of story. Actually, it doesn't really work in clubs at all. I didn't believe it until I experienced it myself, but outdoors is where this kind of music really comes alive.

Besides, I've seen him play smaller gigs. He played a side-stage at a festival here a few years ago which only had a capacity of 250-300.

Maybe I should start typing in "proper" glaswegian and really confuse everyone.

About J00F playing in smaller clubs. In fact he quite often play in smaller clubs. When I saw him in Stockholm he played at a club that only take a couple of hundred.
I think it's mainly in Israel and Latin America that they often have very big open air festivals where thousands of people attend.

I can see the proggy and dark stuff going off a storm in a pitch-black, grimy basement club. I wouldn't have thought melodic prog worked well in small spaces, but it definitely does.

That stuff is okay, but things like this (go to 45 second mark), are just too intense. It's the heavy rolling bass lines that do it. They wear you down horribly after a while, more so than normal club music. Outside this doesn't seem to happen.

What is the most common demographic for EDM, out of curiosity?

I'm guessing middle class whites?

Haven't got the chance to hear the rest of the songs on the single, but I hope they're as good as Deepest Blue. Dwfinitely gonna buy it!!!

Hard to say IMO. I think EDM has a really diverse fan base, especially compared to some other kinds of music.

Every rock-oriented club I've been to has been quite white. :-P

Posted by Schadenfreude on Nov-06-2009 02:05:

it really depends on where you are talking about as the demographic changes a lot depending on the country, or even city in question.

How is that? Here in Switzerland and I would guess in every northern European country you have indoors psy events every weekend from September to May and the venues are far from huge.

Hell, I even went to an indoor event in August:

Also the atmosphere is usually far more enjoyable, since people go there because they like the music and not just because it's Saturday and thus they have to go to a disco after 1AM just for the sake of it.

I really struck a nerve huh?

Keep Googling my name, whore. I'm pretty sure you'll find a lot more Amazon reviews and listings claiming that some ASOT or ISOS CD was the best thing that happened to humanity. Am I embarrassed? Not one bit. I STILL like 'Deepest Blue' to this day. As far as commercial, cheesy house it's definitely one of the best songs.

You already ridiculed yourself on that thread where you tried to "expose" Clovis for liking the same records that you praise and sell (for now) on eBay. Cut the hypocrisy and the bullshit holier than thou attitude, woman.

And LOL...you can't even copy-paste a link properly.

Couldn't of put it better myself mate! Nice one

I'd go see J00f at Fabric if the place wasn't plagued by groping ****s and aggressive dickheads. In that kind of environment, I'm sure he would try something more interesting than run of the mill psy trance.
