Yeah it was my beer of choice as an impoverished student.. it's drinkable as long as its ice cold.

Seems Coopers pale is the standard beer around here these days.

Little creatures is ok.. quite hoppy.

Yeah true, Carlton Draught probably is best of the cheapies. It may have been a bit cruel to lump it with XXXX and VB.

ugh, along with Farmers Union Iced Coffee its pretty much SA's offical drink. I don't like it to be honest. I much prefer the Sparkling Ale. I'm very picky with ales anyway but for some reason I find Coopers Pale particularly bad.

Its not a bad beer, I just can't stomach it normally.

(re: FU Iced Coffee - in South Australia it outsells Coca-Cola, the only place in the world where a milk drink outsells a cola product)

Carlton, Tooheys and VB would probably be the most popular brands across Oz, with XXXX (barbed wire) being very popular in Queensland (and most likely only QLD).

Our best (large scale produced) beers would be Coopers (and there are multiple offerings from them), Cascade, and Boags. Both Cascade and Boags remind me a little bit of the taste of Stella Artois (but still different - Better, IMO).

From the small breweries, I've heard good things about 'Little Creatures' and there seem to be a number of the micro breweries appearing on the shelves these days (about time!).

fixed

Do you Australians use Aussie Shampoo? You know the saying, put some roo in your doo.

Posted by Rose on Nov-28-2009 21:07:

Might as well ask if Aussies ride kangaroos to work lol.

wtf

Posted by Yohan on Nov-29-2009 01:44:

i'm going to guess you guys don't have that shampoo in oz...

There is also some merit to trying the local Heineken and Stella too because they are brewed in Melbourne. The Euro versions are far better but if you're doing a local taste tour you might as well try them.

The problem with Aussie beer is it's all too bitter. Every single locally made beer is just a tad too bitter.

fucken stupid yanks cant even say 'aussie' properly.

I really gotta try that again.
I tried it when I was in Hobart last time and really didn't think much of it. Having said that - buggered if I can remember what it was actually like. I just remember not being terribly impressed with it, so I better try it again to make sure.....

edit:
Moo Brew is available in the following states: Tasmania | New South Wales & ACT | Victoria | Queensland

I've never tried it. I'll try and hunt it down. Do any of the major liquor stores stock it?

Nice one, there's quite a few in Sydney

Which one do you guys recommend? I've always been a fan of Pilsners but I see they have a few other too.
Oh and how much do they go for roughly?

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Nov-29-2009 04:32:

tbh i have no idea! i dont drink beer. i just whore it coz my friend makes it but ive just texted him asking which one he'd recommend. its pretty expensive as far as beer goes (i think about $16-$18 for 6?). they have collector shit that costs an arm and a leg, but im assuming you wouldn't want to waste money on that crap.
