shi-cane

shi being said the same as shit without the t
and cane rhyming with plane

haha

Dutch dj names are difficult aren't they?

The thing is, we can never let you pronounce it the correct way, for example Johan Gielen....the Dutch G doesn't exist in english language...it's the sound that you make when there's a big pile of slimey stuff in your throad and u want to get it out

like GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Dutch J is silent, like your Y, ie = eeee...

Lange...is like Dang..which you say when you don't want to curse by saying Damn

Chicane...I pronounce it Ssjickain like dat....it's sort of the French pronunciation me thinks

ahhhh
that just made my problems worse!
i think i'll stick to
"shy-cane" until i hear someone pronounce it the correct way

Posted by Miss Proximus on Jul-11-2002 08:09:

it's not shy-cane...coz they you'd pronounce it shy..like lie..which is incorrect....

lemme give it another try...

she-cain (she rhymes with me) pronounce cain the same way you pronounce cocain

so chicane = shecain there!

thats not how they say it when they play live... they sometimes speak over the tunes when they play crasher, and it's always doo-mond

"yes, zis is alice deejay.. but zis is the dumonde mix!!"

thats right, but keep the E sound short, so it's like shickain

Posted by kr00t0n on Jul-11-2002 22:09:

If they say Doo-mond at crasher, then mebbe I is wrong, but they definetly said doo-mon-day when I spoke to them.

As for chicane, c'mon ppl, its a regular word in common usage in Grand Prix.

Shickane

so how about some Taucher and Yves Deruyter action?

p.s. you can hear how Johan Gielen's name is pronounced in the beginning of the white sensation edition

Posted by kr00t0n on Jul-13-2002 14:31:

I think Taucher is: Tow (like cow, not toe) - ker

Yves Deruyter: Eve's duh - rater

Posted by El~ZaPo on Jul-13-2002 17:21:

I've heard Ferry Corsten pronounced as:
Fair-e Coor-sten

With a soft pronounciation of the 'o' in Corsten. I'm almost sure its pronounced Core-sten but just sometimes on livesets, the MC says Coor-sten.

Posted by Strike on Jul-14-2002 04:30:

how about Halcyon?
and Souvenir De Chine <- also, anyone know what this means?

i've heard taucher pronounced 2 ways:

tau(cow)-ch(hghghgh)-er
tau(toe)-ch(hghghgh)-er

the "ch" isn't like CHimp, it's like a gutteral "h" sound, if you know what i mean.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

what about requiem, is it:

reh-qui-em,
or reh-queem?

thanks

Posted by Joca on Jul-14-2002 21:43:

Faire Coor-sten is right!

The other1 is slang! (dutch slang)

Posted by Miss Proximus on Jul-15-2002 13:10:

Taucher = german right?

that means its pronounced tau (tow -> cow) - cher (sjur)

souvenir de chine means chinese souvenir
pronounced souvenir duh (keep it very short) sjean (as in: mean..but also keep it short!)
