When the thread title is:

,

I think it's OK to reply by name.

BTW, my name is actually Dave - feel free to call me that, or cryo, or cryophonik, or dumbass, or newb, or whatever. I promise I won't cry about it.

Any fool could tell that was never going to happen.

Maybe monthly would be more achievable?

Omg.. :P .. You guys are out of touch.. I could've just as well said Love you Deadmau5!.. But in the title he said "Joels dodgy production tip" so then I guess thats what he wanted us to call him by.. Thats atleast what felt natural.. Cause in fact I do love this guy.. And now I had the chance to tell him.. so why not.

You must be thinking I said Joel to try taking of his social status energy, exploiting the general accepted rule that you don't call higher social status figures by their first name unless you know them. Well you interpreted it the wrong way really.. Cause I know him.. (no I don't..)

We all said Joel because we wanted him to feel welcome, treating him like the fellow-being that he is and not some god, an effort to not having him scared away and leave us again. I tried spreading the love, not proving social status.. Everybody knows I am the fucked up stupid balled fucking incompetent loser anyway..

^^

Ok, I must admit. All the drama and various bits and pieces painting you as "bad boy of EDM" didn't really inspire me mail in my fan club request. I know, no skin off your back...

Anywho, I caught "strobe" in some set and started digging around until I found out it was YOU. I must say, I really couldn't help but like the shit out of "For lack of better a better name". The album was perhaps one of the most enjoyable ones I heard in a long while, especially "Strobe" - amazing track. Wasn't a big fan of older work but this album really clicked some buttons and I even had few of my buddies pick up your album as well and got them hooked too. So, consider me a convert

What I would be curious to find out is how you get that juicy, electro sound. Similar to Justice, some Ed Banger's label stuff. I saw an interview somewhere that you run synths through an array of mooger foogers - what's the source of juiciness?

..and thank you for helpful tips too.

On Topic:

As far as base notes go, when phase is an issue, I'll cut the main bass off around 100hz, put on a mono sub with the same notes and compression so that it sounds like the two are one.. but the bass never cuts out on me from phasing. A bass synth of just one square OSC should do the trick. What Deadmau5 is doing is kind of building a unison.. which is awesome, too, especially on a synth like the Moog or something that is Mono. Would be awesome if you have the patience for it. I'd sooner use my Andromeda as a Polymoog.

Thanks for the awesome OP!

great tip, I used to always get pissed off when the peak volumes would go up and down all the time....definitly a unique way to get a thicker sound. cheers.
