Actually... since this thread has been posted, I've actually noticed there isn't a DAMN THING that has gone on here, unless you count dubstep shows at shady venues. It is kind of weird that we're halfway through January and can't talk about any great party within the last month. Or any coming up...

You haven't gone to any, so how could you talk about great parties

No offense, but calling a venue shady and not even having been there is sort of silly.

Posted by trancension on Jan-16-2010 10:19:

Might be silly, but if it's right, it's right!

Posted by cafeine on Jan-16-2010 22:18:

yeah, January is historically bad for the ATL. Can't find a thing to do tonight! First time it's not super cold this year, even if it's wet out, but can't find anyplace worth getting up and out for!

Right...so I'm guessing you feel a lot safer in clubs that have already had problems like shootings?

Always a different excuse it seems.

Posted by trancension on Jan-17-2010 00:22:

Those damn college kids get all cranked up on E and pull out their pistols and start shooting to the rhythm of the lasers at Opera, huh?

Don't get all whiny because your dubstep events are at questionable places compared to other shows. It's not why I don't go to them. I'm a shady guy myself after all. I just don't enjoy dubstep except on rare occasions.

Posted by inferno on Jan-17-2010 00:26:

I also bring relevant techno, but the music is not the point

If you thoroughly enjoy a type of music and you don't want to go because the venue is "sketchy" (even though, yes there have been shootings at Opera) then you are missing out

Posted by trancension on Jan-17-2010 00:39:

There's probably been a shooting at every club/bar in Atlanta. It's one of the reasons the city has to close at 3am now.

Can you send me a link to when there was a shooting after a trance show?

Posted by inferno on Jan-17-2010 01:04:

Only if you link an article to one after a dubstep event

Sorry a lot of you feel like the scene for edm in this city sucks. I know what it's like to not be able to regularly see music you enjoy. If you don't have the money to invest in shows, you can always contact your local club. Contact Opera. Contact Primal. Contact Dreams. Whatever clubs you do like seeing music...tell them what you want to hear.

There haven't been shootings at

Graveyard
The earl
Mjq/du
The mark/karma/filter
El bar
Bazzaar

There have been shootings at
Wetbar
Opera
Dreams

You're right, they weren't after trance events, but let's be honest, what is really more shady about one venue and not another. If you live in fear, then maybe partying in a metropolitan city shouldn't be your #1 priority.

Posted by trancension on Jan-17-2010 01:33:

Your definition of shady was "shootings" during an event. So I asked you to prove to me how a Liquified event at Opera or wherever was sketchy.

My definition of shady wasn't a shooting during an event. There for I do not need to prove there was a shooting at Shelter or wherever to state they are shady. I live in Atlanta...I've had a gun pointed in my face several times. If I lived in fear over shootings and robberies...I wouldn't get very far!

Posted by inferno on Jan-17-2010 01:37:

Whatever you need to tell yourself

Shelter? Shelter is in Buckhead across from Benihanna's.

Posted by trancension on Jan-17-2010 01:45:

You're the one getting all whiny and defensive trying to convince yourself that your shows are the equivalent of a church picnic! I could care less. I rarely go to them. I don't care about them.

But if you're going to come here and say they are lots of fun and the crowd is a bunch of cool people, then I call bullshit.

had to post that!!

Inferno, it seems like all you do is hype up your shows and then attack everyone who doesn't like the music or the place you throw your parties. Obviously you want people to come to your events. The problem is some of us don't care for the music or the place you throw them at, so deal with it. Atlanta is a big city with a lot of crime, stuff happens. I don't even think the biggest problem is where the events are at. Half of us on this forum don't care for dubstep or "relevent techno." If a dj we liked was playing at Bazaar, most of us would go. Most of us don't care for Opera, but it's who's there that will determine whether we go out or not. I can't remember which club it was, but George Acosta played at one of those smaller joints. I would have been happy to go to that.

Posted by inferno on Jan-17-2010 06:25:

That would be a fine analysis, but I'm speaking only to the people who don't go to events of music they do like because of venue issues

Posted by iammesol on Jan-17-2010 22:16:

I love how none of you have met Matt. lol

Posted by iammesol on Jan-18-2010 04:34:

And the reason I find this funny is because years ago, he was sitting in your seat. WHY ARE THERE NO DUBSTEP OR TECHNO DJS COMING TO ATLANTA?! WHY ARE YOU NOT BRINGING THEM?! ATLANTA'S SCENE SUCKS SO BAD.

Now he's doing it himself.

You can't really blame him for saying what he is.

I'd like to hear about these "shady" venues as well? Which ones are considered shady?

I went to the dubstep show in EAV at Cafe Olivia or whatever. Sure, it was not some posh club and it didn't even have a sign. But it was underground and it was cool. If you don't like dubstep it certainly would not be the place for you, but I'm just curious if it would be considered "shady" because it wasn't well known.

It seems to me that people want the douchebag clubs without the douchebags. Sorry, its not going to happen. If you want to listen to underground music then you are going to have to "brave" an underground venue.

The reality is Atlanta is just spoiled. People expect their EDM to be served to them on a silver platter with no work involved. It may have been that way when the economy wasn't so shitty, but now, if you want it, you have to seek it out and work for it.

What?^ or you can move to Charlotte...

If anyone was to move to another US city for purely a dance music reason, I hope it would be to NYC, SF or Miami not Charlotte.

No offense

I feel like an eight-year-old who just found out that Santa Claus isn't real.

I've been to "shady" dubstep at...

Blue Frog / East Atlanta - Music tolerable, sound horrible, severely over-packed, horrible staff, nobody I was with has wanted to go back.

Apache Cafe - Don't even get me started on this place. $5 "free" show, 45 minute bar wait, more douche bags operating the place, and the first place the super chill Bong has ever declared he'd rather chew off his own leg than go to again.

Cafe Olivia - We'd sworn off random places but gave this bit the benefit of a doubt. Wasn't all that bad, but couldn't get into the vibe in an overlit room with people dressed as cats and bunnies hoola hooping in the back of a semi-warehouse rave. Really the only reason we didn't care so much for it is being served alcohol by what appeared to be a 14 year old, a pregnant lady, and well... we just weren't feelin' it.

Not sure if you had anything to do with any of these shows, but they've been enough to turn me and friends off of the dubstep parties for a bit.
