Falafel... I've never had falafel.

Likewise. I've never even seen falafel.

i don't ever remember the doritos being cool. they were always cooler, as far as i know.

oh man, sounds epic. leftover chili again though right? so long as you have some bread there for dippage, i'm there. can you pick me up?

and dude they used to be "cool ranch" and "nacho cheese" doritos before they got all gay with the -ers and the -iers.

Looks like a gyro.

if we're talking about stereotypical arabic/egyptian/whatever foods, i would suggest hummus over falafel. i fucking love hummus. i've had some shitty falafel before. i prefer good ol' american fries over falafel, personally.

also, speaking of common foods we've never eaten- i've never had prime rib before. people give me the look all the time when i say that.

Posted by lcid on Dec-31-2009 00:33:

if any of you are in NY or Amsterdam i highly recommend making a stop at either Mamoun's Falafel (NY) or Miami Falafel (Amsterdam). i've eaten a lot of falafel in my life but nothing compares to those.

and Nate, good falafel does not exist in Milwaukee. i fucking hated not being able to get good falafel there.

it kinda is, it's a falafel pita wrap.

deep fried chickpea balls, pretty much. they're tasty, but not something i'm REALLY fond of.

Even France, which for a long time (or so I read) resisted the tide of fast food, is starting to give in to it. Cheap, efficient, homogeneous, unhealthy cuisine is coming to dominate many countries, resulting in lots of obesity and stuff. From the article:

Thoughts on this trend? Do you make a point of having leisurely and home-cooked meals? Or have you too given in to the tide of McDonald's?

Mc Donalds in the US =/= Mc Donalds in France.

Our biggest size for drinks, fries, is the smallest in the US.

And now they are trying to be a bit classier (new logo in Europe: , new restaurants with more bio food, etc.)

by changing the background color from red to green?

what i hate about mcdonald's is the lack of selection. it's all a bunch of variations of the same cheeseburgers or chicken sandwich (though i suppose the same could be said for almost every fast food joint). and they don't serve just a typical bacon cheeseburger. wtf.

nate, when you finally get to eat Mickey D's in Korea you will see that it is so much more awesome than here.

bulgogi burger and big tasty with a black bean ice tea (think ice cappuccino) ftw.

shawarma > falafel

It's an European (marketing) policy to show that they are green, and usually, green means more expensive...

If you add the fact they are revamping their restaurants you can see an obvious upselling strategy.

Looks like kibe... can I choose the filling? I think it'd be tasty with cheese.

Falafel is amazing!

My girlfriend and I both love to cook so most of our meals take 1 hour + and taste delicious!

You moved before Abu's had a makeover. Their chicken shwermas ftw and the falafel is straight. And nrjizer like the guy that used to aggressive inline

when i cook dinner it is usually an epic process that takes anywhere from 1.5-3 hours depending how many courses there are, the prep work involved, and how i eat them (if i cook everything first or if i cook then eat, then cook, then eat again) i generally don't cook unless it's going to be an epic meal with leftovers i can use for a few days

i rarely eat fast food (except on lunch, and usually ill just get like a falafel or a slice of pizza). when i go out to eat it usually takes 1-2 hours depending on the conversation/company and the size of the meal.

What the hell are you making man?
I can make quite healthy and filling meals in 30 minutes, or a bit over an hour if baking is involved.

Speaking of McDonalds, do you guys have McCafe and Healthy Choices in your local Maccers? They have them here and they are surprisingly quite good. Still fast food but far better than the usual junk.

now you cite something

I hate to nitpick such an admirable attempt to support one's argument with actual facts, but...

quote:
The aim of the study was to investigate the potential link between changes of serum ALT to the amount of hepatic fatty infiltration in healthy non-obese subjects during a positive energy balance resulting in a weight gain of 515%.

This study, while interesting, does not even attempt to address the question of whether the same risk of liver damage would exist for a subject consuming the same food during a neutral (or negative) energy balance, so it cannot support the proposition that "exercise does not change this."

There is definitely some reason to doubt that triglycerides would accumulate within hepatocytes to the same degree were there not a substantial surplus of energy within the body. Further study is probably warranted.
