It's stupid cause prices here are 100$+ to go to a BEB rave, whereas in Europe 30-40euros to go to an event twice the size and quality, bringing us back to.... Sponsorships...

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jan-06-2010 22:14:

sponsorships yes, but it all comes down to the good old "supply and demand" rule.

when there is a demand for your product, and people are willing to pay for it, you charge what you can get.

bal en blanc is a cash grab, yes.

they are a businees though, and last time i checked businesses are all about making money no matter what they are selling.

they are not unicef ffs.

They do get BC for free and split the money with Gillete entertainment, this is not the case with Palais Des Congres, which you can even check for yourself, is an extremely expensive venue.

they are making more money in europe than here no matter what the price of entry...point a la ligne.

well yes, theres other factors too.

it was during the day, like you said its more of a booze thing, etc.

i think if they have like 2-4 names for an afterhours event, i think people would pay 40-50 bucks

people pay 35 at stereo with not even knowing who is spinning?

Very good point, people went because it was Piknik and really one of the only decent Sundays this summer, myself & friends included. We didn't know or care who was playing, just like the people who go to BEB. We went for the event. That's what the majority of people tend to do in this city. Once you've established your event you can book who ever you feel like. Basically it comes down to whether or not the person doing the bookings has good taste and judgment.

I went to black and blue, and it was fine, i loved it. Again, most people didnt go because it was Sasha & Digweed, most people didnt go because its a known gay-event. If S&D were at Resolution, there would be the same if not more people attending. You truly think that (most) people now say, "hey Above & Beyond are playing, lets go" Like Mr. Freak said, drugs and the whole experience has a big part of the reasons. Most people just go to these massives because they want to party, be with freinds, 'get fucked with 10,000' lol

put as much female skin at Black and Blue as you get at Bal en Blanc, reduce the gay numbers and stigma of a "gay rave" and that event sells out too.

Then all sorts of straight guys would go to Black and Blue looking for sex like djchez

Were there any professional pictures taken of Resolution? Anyone?

i disagree, if it were not for the gay crowd the city would be worse off. They generally have more disposable income than the straight crowd, so events that cater to them are a good thing.

Posted by WittyHandle on Jan-07-2010 17:30:

The good thing about events that are seen as gay is that it scares away the meatheads that I don't want to party with anyway. "Gay stigma" ftw.

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jan-07-2010 17:38:

to be fair, meatheads are not solely a heterosexual phenomenon. I still get your point.

we both agree on that but the 'stigma' that many heteros (the majority) have about gay events is hard to shake, is what I'm saying. Black and Blue is a terrific event for ppl who can get past that but unfortunately there's not enough of us.

very true, I had a gay meathead tried to sit on my lap at Black and Blue

people like that need to realize that we are no longer in the middle ages and they should never leave the house without wearing a football helmet to prevent further damage to an already depleted brain.

Posted by Spin Laden on Jan-07-2010 21:51:

indeed..many have the complex that they'll get hit on or raped but 99 per cent of the time there's no issues.

My first post is the mindset of many (re skin and less gays), probably the reason why Bal en Blanc is bulging at the seams with ticket sales even though both events have been around for roughly the same duration (I think BeB turns 16 this year, B&B, 20). It's def not the dj selection.. but I thought someone on here once remarked that the BeB bookings are done by one authority?

Posted by Spin Laden on Jan-07-2010 22:37:

I gotta say though an edm party with decent beats and girls is a plus.. a rarity but a plus

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jan-07-2010 22:39:

you eventually outgrow the need to make sexytime with club rats, or you die from aids.

Posted by Spin Laden on Jan-07-2010 22:46:

rave hags? (yes Lift, I borrowed that one )

Posted by Schadenfreude on Jan-07-2010 22:52:

those whores get passed around more than a collection plate at church.

They are unfortunately mutually exclusive for the most part in my experience.

Posted by Spin Laden on Jan-08-2010 04:37:

yup. Book Guetta, Armin and Tiesto, now even the mau5 and they come out in droves.

I don't mean rave hags/club rats, just women period

I've always dreamed that one day I'd be rich enough that I didn't have to work a real job and could devote all my time to scientifically determining what attracts the hottest women to the shittiest music.
