I imagined so, since I'm not religious myself

the good news is i did do the research myself. i collected all of those quotes and put them on a web page where they've been for 10 years now. i'd hate to inconvenience you with more random people, but here: http://www.intellexual.net/quotes.html

That's impressive, and I congratulate you for your work. But, did you read all those quotes from their original sources, or did you just stumble upon them? If you did read, it's be nice of you if you mentioned the source as well. I mean, they're just there, as a collage in that page (or in this thread). For example:
quote:
The wretchedness of religion is at once an expression and a protest against real wretchedness. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the feeling of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of unspiritual conditions. It is the opium of the people

Yes, Karl Marx did say that. But why? This quote is awfully misinterpreted because people rarely get to read the Theses On Feuerbach thoroughly (and it's not that long). Yet, everyone knows "Religion is the opium of the people", and come up with the shallowest interpretations of why that is.

This is what I mean to say: posting quotes by remarkable people is no more different than collecting excerpts from the bible and pasting them as if they proved anything. They're just boring. Are you really saying that you can't build upon the ideas others have shared with you? I'm sure you can!

i could, but that would take a lot of time, look really wall-of-texty, and no one would want to read it

Fuck you teabaggers.

Your useless party is poised to drown in a southern swamp where it belongs.

"religion is the opium of the people" is significantly shorter than the quotes posted however. 6-8 lines should be fine for context.

That's your mistake. Renegade (an Aussie TA) used to be the master of wall-of-texts, and because of their quality, we'd read it. I used to post very long posts myself (I still do), and people read.

The more interesting the content, the longer it can be

Heres a perfectly positive thing to say as a popular religious figure:

Anyone else tired of these religious assholes spewing such bullshit?
