Right, well it's not far from now as it's been announced that it's coming

Still ironing out the details here but I ABSOLUTELY want to have the requirement of there being at least 1 TA PRODUCTION as a requirement for all submissions.

Now, the question is, what counts as a TA PRODUCTION and how do we put together a list of these tracks so that DJs know where to find them?

Posted by EddieZilker on Apr-09-2010 23:41:

I throw my hat into the ring but I'd think it might be something from the TA producer's album for more qualified results - those are people who are really contributing to this board; not that I don't try, in my own way...

I also don't use a four on the floor beat for any of my music. It's all break-beat.

Well to be honest, shouldn't any production from a regular TA, count as a TA production?

Although in this case, I think exceptions should be applied to well known producers from TA such as Deadmau5 and Lolo (sorry Joel/Laurent! ).

As for DJ's being able to find the tracks, perhaps a thread could be created for the sole purpose of promoting tracks (from TA producers) for use in the DJ competition? From which, at least one track has to be chosen from the thread?

Anyway, I'm just brain farting.

you can avoid the problems all together if the dj must use one of his own productions.

Agree.

It should be a benefit that whoever you choose is a producer as well as a dj; so we should all be able to use our own productions for our 1 track.

I def have a surprise for my mix

Do you really need to post a list? I say everyone notates a track in their tracklists for which one is their required TA Production. Makes it really easy for the dj as well as you and whoever else is judging.

This is a good idea. They could provide a TA thread citation, to certify it. It shouldn't come from any release promo thread that labels litter the Music Producer's Promotion Forum with.

Feedback for idea:

DEZ - Hey, man, this is a great idea!
ZED - Absolutely will support
cryophonik - Hey, man, I think those first two are you. Those are just permutations on your name.
mfitterer - Cryo didn't give you permission to use his name to give a positive review of your own ideas. What the hell am I doing in this section of your post?
Diginut -
cronodevir - I is a pirate. Arrrgh.
Keysora - What?! It's my birthday. Why am I getting dragged into this?
owein - idea sux
Eddie Deep - totally cool idea, Zilker! Will support.
Sonic_c - You just did another permutation on your stupid name. WTF? Are you really "deep"? Neck deep in bullshit, I imagine.

Not a bad idea.

I say we chose the dj first then let him chose which track to play out made by a TA member

this dj contest is already gonna be a lot of work for judging and you're suggesting ANOTHER contest? ugh.

Posted by chinamon on Apr-15-2010 19:56:

the main reason i suggested the 3 year time limit on tracks to swamper is to prevent some inactive djs from making a "classics" set because they havent bought new material in the last few years. the 3 year time limit will allow the individual to play some big floor fillers as well as fresh material.

having 1 track produced by a TA is a great idea but i see some problems stemming from that. if the track is not licensed then it would be too easy for someone to steal and rename a track as their own. there are some dishonest people out there that will do anything to win. if they are chosen as winner and we find out that they stole someone's track then that would open a whole can of worms.

i think club experience should be mandatory (sorry bedroom djs). this is a HUGE festival in belgium and we need a dj who has club experience so they dont "freeze up" from being nervous or try to steal the spotlight from the headliners. the winner needs to realize that he/she is not there as a headliner. ive seen far too many new djs that would open the night and bang it out so hard at from 10pm-12am like they were the headliner playing at 4am.

I agree. Just let the DJ choose a TA's track. A self-produced track shouldn't satisfy that criteria, but if they could include one in addition to another TA's.

Personally, I'd love to hear a DJ mix of ONLY TA tunes. Is there such a thing?

They are a few years old, but yes... check out the TranceAddicts UNITE series

TAU 3 ftw, imo. (And other random letters)

The problem is that is all up to interpretation. What is a club? How many people have to be there for it to be legitimate? There are so many holes in that being used it's ridiculous. I've played out and thrown my own parties but there is no legitimate scene for Trance & Progressive here. There are many other places that are just like this if not worse.

If you were trying to increase your own probability of winning the contest; maybe you should put your focus on promoting yourself better so you don't need a contest such as this to boost your own standing and track record.

Chinamon raises some good points...

I'm leaning towards making the selection of a TA production optional (but encouraged) and NOT putting a time limit on track selection age limitations (that's another headache to keep track of).

If your set kicks ass it kicks ass...it's safe enough to say that if your set is cookie-cutter is will be cookie-cutter whether it has newer tracks or older ones.

Yes?

I tend to think that a set with no train-wreck and no TA track still ought to be favored over a set with both a train-wreck and a TA track...

So, without being heavily invested in the outcome, I say, "Yes."

If a set rocks, it rocks, no matter what's included with it.

Big Ears

So whats the verdict guys? When can we expect to get the final criteria?

www.tranceaddict.com/djcontest

I loosened the restrictions because I want to say what comes out of this...We'll learn from this one for the next one and take it from there. I don't want to stifle creativity.

Will push this out as an announcement later today.
