I had a great night at Contact but have come to think that shorter sets and longer dj line-ups aren't for me... It's like a sample of their potential and some of them didn't perform as I anticipated.
I was really disappointed when songs were repeated.
I completely underestimated Rank 1, and think that it was the best set of the night. I completely agree that he should have played second to Blank & Jones who were good but didn't wow me. But I guess that's the cost of following a hard act to beat. I'd love to see Rank 1 again!
Menno... ugh! I've seen him before and he made my night amazing. I remember hearing him drop serious tunes that made the crowd explode. This time around, his mix was just mediocre. I definitely expected more, I listen to his podcasts and they have more edge, more of those harder, less fluffy beats mixed with some innovative songs that other djs don't incorporate into their sets. I think he played too safe a set; songs that we've already heard and know him for playing. Although, "Last Night Tonight" is great and his energy was contagious.
Morph was good, but I found his set to be up and down... he had some boring songs followed by amazing tracks, but altogether wasn't really consistent and I left after giving him an hour's worth. I think he was going along with the vibe of the club, compensating for songs that might not have had the desired effect, which I'll give him credit for. I'd see him again.
Here it is!! I wish the video was beter
LOL!!! he was great!

Sorry to hear about your camera Morty. I hope it turns up. I had my camera stolen before, completely heartbreaking
Coxx, really nice videos! Really made wish I was there
When I watch these videos I'm reminded that Menno is somewhat similar to Sander. They both smile profusely when they play. I think their faces are frozen in that position... LOL.
I had a great time but I'm soo pissed at myself for missing Alex Morph. I drank wayy too much (I mean a lot) and left around 5. Fuckk!!! oh well...It was nice meeting some TAs.
PS: Is there a picture thread around here anywhere? I hardly recognized anyone lol

Lovin' the reviews. Wish I was there. I'm craving Trance.
Piet I know you read the boards! When are you coming back to Boom Boom Room for me? lol
Well I was having a good time saturday night.
Firstly, I didn't find anything about the music to be extraordinary. I got lost in a few tracks which was nice, but it seemed to be the same music, same beat, same type, of trance with every DJ. I'd say I liked Rank 1's set the most, as usual, but either Piet didn't seem to be on his game, or he resisted with all his will not to play a prime-time set as he was the opener. I noticed the vibe in the Guv really changed once he dropped Jochen Miller - Brace Yourself, but felt like he couldn't pull it up from there. Stupid timeslots.
I completely zoned out for B&J's set, didn't care one bit for it really, trying to save energy to wait for MORPH to come on. So I won't even comment on their set.
Menno def played better than last time he was here, but he's still, imo, just a mid-rank dj who's entertaining to watch and listen too, but nothing special. But it was about half way through his set when I lost my camera and that's what killed my night. I was really upset. I'm usually so DAMN careful when I bring it out! But I think I was playing around with my new Blackberry I just wasn't thinking. I'm positive someone has stolen it, as I re-traced my steps and even had staff helping me (thanks Tim).
Anyway, I was hoping that once Alex came on it would lift my spirits a bit and help me forget about it. He started off pretty slow tbh. Not just because of the long intro into a breakbeat, but the first half hour I kept thinking that the beat needed to be faster! Well, that's what ya get for the last time slot I guess, trying to bring it down a notch before bringing it back up again. Stupid timeslots. We left halfway through his set, didn't think we were missing much.
I think there was too much "generic" trance that night, would have been nice to bring a more harder edged DJ as well to break it up a bit. Anyway, Vdub, finally nice meeting you! Some of my highlights was talking to random people about Trance Energy because of my shirt and a dude recognizing me as a DJ on the street afterwards LOL. Was great seeing all the crews again though (you know who you are), always fun times

First of all I would like to say to everybody : Thank you for coming to the guv last saturday!
Just to let you know I had a great time playing again in this wonderfull club.
For those who thought I didn't enjoy myself: When I am playing i am so concentrated what to play and how to mix good, that my face shows something like I don't care at all. Well, that's the problem of my face and it will probably always be this way when I am playing. Sorry for that.
My conclusion of saturday : For me, one of the best nights in the guv adn I hope to be back soon!

Agreed.. You were at work, did a great job and dont need to sell us your music by posing, smiling, gesturing, touching etc.
Aside from the terrible state of label whore djs who put out 2 hours of personal productions and all. I really detest the current 2-3 year trend of circus antics being churned out by these attention hungry laptop junkies. The bullshit that goes on in the booth is nothing but a circus act. Let the music do the talking. Every Dj is now selling a brand and a character. In a way, a lot of them act like professional wrestlers. The last thing i want to see is some Dj acting like jesus, puting their headphones in the air or creating some other retarted pose that serves no purpose but to evoke a reaction from the scenesters. Then you have this current trend of hand/finger hearts.. wtf? Is this a Miley Cyrus concert? Who wants to see a row of emotionally charged females up front anticipating when they will get their first/next chance at touching a Djs hand. Enough is enough, I would like to turn the clock back and put the booth back to where it belongs.
i do miss the old guv dj booth. Huge and spacious (with couches) and back then the music did most of the talking.
(well for me it still does)
