Ooooh I would have loved to see him perform tonight in place of a couple of people.

This goes back to the thread on which Canadian artists represent Canada....hmmm... KD Lang?? Wouldn't be my choice!
(she didn`t do a horrible job though. It was alright)

There was a few Bianvenouu here and there, that's enough

AND there was no 20 minutes hommage to poutine

i think they determined the time by how many immigrants there is in canada from that country

cuz china had fair bit of air time and probly 1/8th of all Vancouver population is from china....

Michael Buble would have been awesome, I am clueless why not.

But Nikki Yanovsky is Quebecoise, and has killer pipes for such a young lass. She'll be the next "Celine Dion" out of Quebec in the near future, with better looks and less horse teeth.

Posted by Sentinal on Feb-13-2010 06:36:

kinda off topic, but did anyone notice the 2 fighter jets flying over toronto around 4 pm today??? I wonder if this has anything to do with the Olympics. They were flying south from the west. It was very strange seeing them in the sky and coincidental seeing as how today is the opening ceremonies.

now you got me wondering on true background of Nikki, the last name does point towards slavic speaking nation, Russian? Polish?

some of it was nice, but it was very lame and toned down...wtf bryan adams? kd lang? i am surprised rita macneal didn't sing (stadium probably not big enough.). I was proud to be Canadian for about 30 minutes out of the few hours, the rest just made me feel vindicated for being an english speaking separatist.

garou is a fag.

i never really agree with malek, but we looked like we were on a budget big time...it was boring, the rest of the world does not care about tatanka.

Does the rest of Canada really see this as their identity? If so, all the more reason why such a big country with so little people living very far apart have nothing in common.

I'll still cheer on the hockey team, but my name is not joe...et c'est z , pas zee. Cliche time.

I really wanted to be excited about these ceremonies but I gotta say, they were just OK...

With all the star power this country has, the best we can do is KD Lang!??

I like the fact that there was an aboriginal representation and the girl who sang the anthem was good, I really liked the beginning segment and the dude who talked abou what it meant to be Canadian. Other than that, kinda vanilla. The choreography was messy and scattered at times and the music is sooo boring!! Why not bring in a big name DJ for at least one number..

The opera singer made me want to pull my hair out and the dude from Quebec..lame.

Other than that..i felt really proud to be a Canadian and it was nice to see us on the world stage.

My husband and I loved the technical difficulties..probably the funniest shit of the night..

ps. I was hoping to see Buble all night..

WTF was up wiht not even acknowledging the Iranian team? Seems really shitty..

i thought the same ... the native bs was overkill

then again wtf else are they supposed to show? what is canadian culture anyways? tbh id argue that canada is void of any ... oh well

We are not China.
We are not Greece.

We have neither the exorbitant budget or 15,000 people to run around the stage as a bunch of street fighter characters for slave wages; as was the case in China. Nor did we inject fake fireworks, lipsink swapped children or $100 million american dollars.

We are on a budget, as the whole world is now.

This was a stunning embodiment of the subtlety of our nation. We are proud, in difference, and are prone to share, not force that which we are proud of.

KD Lang, the Joni Mitchell Song, the poetry and the Whale Sequence were incredible. And perfect.

Sad this didn't feel right for some Canadians.

Well said. I thought it was great. People pick the stupidest shit to whine about.

Wicked ad. Shitty beer, but a wicked ad.

The whole ceremony felt like a freaking funeral.
Depressing,no energy..no way to start off the olympics.
Maybe they should of made this as a fund raiser for Haiti.

Ya, they could have devoted some more time to some countries. I know what you mean. But what's been done has been done. I am Iranian, but what can i do. I am sure others would have wanted the camera on their country a little longer.

+1 all the way. and correct me if I am wrong, but Canada has now officially hosted the winter Olympics more than any other country?

The USA has actually hosted it 4 times and the most I believe.

Are you guys watching this live now? They just added some adjustments to the luge run for extra safety. Full of padding now. I still believe no one else with come close to the padding anyways. It's only there for those who lose control.
