-- So who is getting in shape for WMC?

shared diets have been one of the funny traditions our group has had over the years.
Half of the fun of miami is deciding on parties, finding condos, shopping etc, and doing all of this along with a big group of friends.

I clean up my diet every year but I really just set a caloric goal and stick to it. I watch my macros, eat lots of healthy fats and good carbs and usually it works out pretty well.

Sometimes I wish I ate this well all year because I feel way better.
Consistency is key, dieting and starving are not.

I think once you enter into an event like this your "manner tolerance" sort of broadens.

I don't think it's the situation that you describe that anybody really cares all that much about. I mean, if the sun has come up, it's hot as hell, you've been dancing all night, and you really need some small relief from the heat, then nobody really cares if you shed a little clothing. But what was originally referred to in this thread was the quote "guy friends dying to take their shirts off at any party". It's these egotistical douchebags that take their shirts off early, and at every party, because they truly believe that everyone wants to witness the results of their latest cycle. It's really more of an attitude type of thing, than a clothing issue...... though gettting splashed with their sweat is none too appealing, either.

EDIT: I suppose a lot of us have a tiny bit of the doucebag mentality instilled in us, though, as we talk about working out, cutting carbs, etc, just in preparation for the eyes of strangers in Miami.
Society's fault.

yah, it's tough. I'm not a coffee drinker but I love my soda, especially Mt Dew, so the first week or so is very difficult. I'm about a week in now, and it's getting a little easier, but the temptation is ridiculous when I order greasy food like pizza or burgers.

Posted by Joe Drust on Feb-27-2010 20:43:

I think without caffeine I would vaporize.

Posted by Banora on Feb-27-2010 23:43:

I'm only eating chicken and veggies, cutting out junk food, doing crunches, lunges and push-ups 5 days a week.

Posted by FallingMoon on Feb-28-2010 03:29:

totally been working out, but always try to work out throughout the year. just really committed to it right now!

Posted by DPetey81 on Mar-03-2010 04:52:

I worked out with an entire pizza last night. These $10 pizza deals at the large chains is most likely going to be the death of me...... but what a delicious death it'll be.

had a crazy party weekend, that always helps danced all night friday to danny howells and lee burridge. nice little warm up to WMC!

I've been eating crap for the past 2 weeks, my beer belly has come back!

Posted by ZEe NYC on Mar-04-2010 23:54:

no sugar, no sweets, no cheese, no mayo, no food after 7:30-8pm, no soda/cola/pepsi/sprite (whatever you want to call it).

this is terribly hard, considering i work in a catering facility that has an abundance of Filet Mignons, canolis, rainbowcakes, chicken fingers and just about every passing hors d'oeuvre that you can posibly think of that will give you a heart attack on sight.

i've been working on this since September, so it's not really 'for miami', but more like a huge change. dropped 17lbs since sept

Posted by AY STAR on Mar-05-2010 02:19:

i been hittin the gym really hard these past few days
3 nights a week iam doing cardio
the rest is weight training

for breakfast iam eatting either egg whites & turkey bacon or fiber one bars and some fruit

Wow, some pretty hardcore stuff on here. I used to be super conscious about stuff like this (like back in 2005) and I tend to do the worst thing possible - yo-yo dieting. Now it's so much harder to lose the extra flab even though nobody notices when I lose or gain it. It's more of a personal thing - you wanna "feel" good, no squishy spots when you're in a hot place like Miami. It's also great motivation for getting back in shape. About 3 weeks left, not sure how much I can possibly lose (fat, not weight), but I'm going all out. I hate non-sports Cardio (and I didn't sign up for any leagues this semester), but I guess I might as well incorporate it on off days. Eating right is obviously key, but the one thing that always screws me over...

booze

I'm so excited about WMC that I want to go out more and attend local events, but realistically I can't go and not drink, so I guess I'll have to lay low until I lose the fat. How do you guys stop yourselves on weekends (or maybe even the odd pint or six on a weekday)? Will power?

I hear ya!! Im a beer drinker, and i hate liquor... but lately ive been trying to limit my partying to about 2 nights per week. Trying to switch to gin & tonics and such..... but just doesnt compare to a nice beer
