Great week all around. A special shoutout goes to Jean Luc Juan Pablo aka JLJP. Nobody fucks with him.
Wednesday: Did some serious drinking and shopping during the day. Stumbled my way to Ovum for some decent tunes, although I was expecting more. Left there around 5am and kept the party going.
Thursday: Showed up in prime condition to Luciano vs Loco Dice. Set of the day IMO went to Reboot (SERIOUS TUNAGE). Great way to start off the pool sparty for the week. Tried to get into Viva night but the line was ridiculous at 1:30am so headed over to Hernan @ Shine. Definitely glad I made my way there. Got a nice dosage of amazing prog from Darren Emmerson and Hernan. Nice surprise night and nice change.
Friday: Slept until Circo Loco. Expected more from this party but it was a great time. The sets of the day go to Tanzzman vs Squillace, Francois K and Tania Vulcano. Really nice venue, just wish the music would have been a little crazier and louder. Made a trip down to Danny vs Lee @ aerobar. The tunes were amazing but I just couldn't last after already partying so hard. Left around 3am and slept until Get lost.
Saturday: Relax until 9am and headed to IMO the party of the week: "GET LOST". This party was my kind of party, all the DJ's brought their A game. Mr C KILLED it upstairs. Clive henry, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler too many names to name. Outside was absolute bonkers afternoon and goes down as one of the best parties I have been too by far. Good friends + sunshine + get lost + insane crowd = unreal vibe you don't get to experience much anywhere else. Forgot to mention the surprise appearance of Tania Vulcano @ Get lost. WOWOWOWOW she fucking destroyed that small room upstairs. That was a real treat to walk into and made this day hands down my favourite party of the week and possibly ever.
Sunday: Slept until about 11am until it was time for Sunday School. Great music all day. Really enjoyed all the DJ's but especially Paco inside. He was just throwing some serious Techno Bombs that gave me the extra energy I needed to push right through. Danny & Lee played really well all day but I preferred Lee most of the day. Stayed until the outside closed around 10:30pm.
Monday: Kept the party going with good friends and just didn't want it to end.
All in all an amazing week. I wish it wasn't all over but don't regret a thing. Met some amazing new friends and strengthened a lot of relationships with current friends.
Life is great and this week just proved how lucky I am to know the people I do and to go on trips like this.

haha nice vids del
started out the short weekend blitz with the "Discoteca Boat Cruise" on Saturday afternoon/evening. Much like Toronto, boats do not board on time, nor leave on time, and come back early.... But the vibe was amazing so none of these factors really mattered. Rafters were fun to swing on. Sweet sexy summer prog beats from beginning to end. Bal Erik is such an up and coming DJ. Great vibe and energy. He is a great pairing to have with Luke. Great track selection for a perfect lead in to Mr. Fair. This guy needs to come to play in Toronto.... (Bring the Beats....
)
Luke was Luke on a boat. Great from start to finish. Mind you it was a little shorter then I had hoped, but funkyness was the name of the game....
Watching the sun set over the Miami harbour was incredible to say the least.... Best surprise of the party were the cheap beers.
....i'm at work so this is not a full weekend review....
Boys Noize vs. Erol Alkan at Ultra Music Festival (in HD)
I can't get enough of Boys Noize right now so Sik!

My review is done except for Get Lost on Saturday during the day. That party was so good I'm still trying to wrap my head around exactly what happened.
I'll post one up soon.

My favorite party was Nicolas Matar (owner of Cielo, NYC) and Victor Calderone at a private party at the Florida Room of the Delano Hotel.
I was somewhat disappointed with the This Is: EVOLVE pool party earlier because Sander was meh, but this party was awesome! Victor played a really different style then his bangin' techno, he played a deep, organic sound, very chilled and layered, totally different style. Nicolas opened up for him rather nicely with his groovy, filtered sounds. Sometimes the private parties are better than the main ones!

Well, the week is over, and what a week it was. It may have been the quickest week I've ever had in my life.
I arrived on Wednesday groggy and anxious due to having a 6am flight. That feeling was knocked away in a hurry when the cab drove into South Beach, and the warm weather and sun seeped into my skin, and I took in the colours, the sights and sounds of South Beach.
We arrived at the condo, put our bags down and got down to business right away. We spent all of Wednesday eating, drinking, and shopping around South Beach. I really must say that South Beach is quite a nice place, and the location of our condo helped us enjoy it to the fullest. Lots of beautiful patios to sit at while watching group after group of gorgeous bikini clad women walk by.
On Wednesday night, we went to Ovum at Shine which was a great time. I don't have much a review of the music because I didn't end up staying there too long, but I did like what I heard.
Thursday:
I woke up Thursday with a raging hangover unlike I've had in quite a long time. We decided to go to the Cadenza vs. Desolat pool party at the Shelborne as a last minute decision which was one of the best decisions we made all week.
The Shelborne pool is just incredible. When the party was finally in full swing, I remember standing on one side of the pool just taking a look around me with my jaw on the ground. Everyone along the perimeter of the pool was dancing, the crowd was going wild, the music was pumping, and it felt like everyone was simultaneously coming to the realization that their long-awaited vacation had finally begun.
Reboot really floored me that day. I had seen him once before and he didn't impress me that much at all, but he definitely played one of the best sets of the whole week and was much better than Loco Dice and Luciano in my opinion. There was one moment during his set where he played a latin sounding track that he let build forever, when the sun was at it's strongest, and everyone had their hands in their air with big smiles on their faces. Truly one of the best moments of the week, and one of the best party moments ever for me.
(this video doesn't even do that moment an ounce of justice)
I had a lot of fun at the Cadenza/Desolat pool party, and was exactly what I expected an epic WMC pool party to be. Great music, hot sun, drinks flowing, moments of magic and beautiful girls dancing in bikinis everywhere.
I made an attempt to go to Space Terrace on Thursday night to see Lawler & co. but my friend couldn't get in and my hangover still had a bit of a grip on me so I decided to rest up for the rest of the week.
Friday:
To say that everyone we were staying with were highly anticipating the Circo Loco pool party was an understatement. So when we all woke up on Friday morning to what sounded like a torrential downpour, we were quite disappointed. We finally pulled our hurting bodies out of bed and made it to Circo Loco at around 3:30pm. When we got there, there weren't that many people there yet, and we were afraid that the party had gone bust because everyone was afraid of the rain.
The party did fill up quite nicely, but I still wasn't that impressed. There was only 1 stage instead of 3, half of the DJs got cancelled, and the crowd/experience really wasn't what I was expecting. It was a fun party and the music was good, but I think Circo Loco has failed to export their product to Miami in a meaningful way. Although it was a fun party, it was not 10% of what the real Circo Loco in Ibiza was. After the fiasco last year at Nocturnal Terrace (which thankfully I wasn't present for), and after what happened this year, if I come back to WMC, Circo Loco will not be one of my priorities.
That being said, Matthias Tanzmann vs. Davide Squillace was one of the best sets of the whole week, and Sneak and Francois K played some great music as well. Also, this party was in a very nice, big venue with a MASSIVE amount of people. Hopefully these guys can get their act together next year if Circo Loco fans haven't given up already, because this party had a lot of pootential.
After Circo Loco we went to Lee Burridge vs. Danny Howells at Aero Bar where they both played a very good set, but we left after only 2 hours because we wanted to be rested for Get Lost.
Saturday:
I don't even really know where to begin with Get Lost on Saturday...
When this party got announced in the weeks leading up to WMC, it was the show-stopping announcement I had been looking for, and the first party I bought my ticket for without any hesitation. I was looking forward to this party more than any other, and had high expectations (which are usually very hard to meet). This party was more than I ever expected and hoped for, and I am still trying to come to terms with just how good Get Lost was on Saturday.
When the set times got announced, I was disappointed to see that all the DJs I wanted to see were playing the very early slots since my plan was to sleep the night before, and get there at around 10am. I decided to bite the bullet and get there for opening or as close to it as possible.
We arrived at around 5:30am, and the place filled up very quickly. The day started off with a groovy, disco/funk-infused, mind-warping set by Lee Foss. Lee Foss was the DJ I was looking forward to seeing the most the whole week, and he did not disappoint. Next I saw Art Department (Toronto locals Kenny Glasgow and Johnny White) throw down a very groovy set with vocals done by Kenny G. Upstairs was absolutely rammed and going off during their set, which was awesome to see from what I consider to be some of Toronto's finest. For the first couple of hours of the morning, it was so packed and hot that I had to enjoy the party sitting down.
After Art Department's set, I was on my way outside to the terrace where I was stopped dead in my tracks by Matt Tolfrey. Wooooooooooooooow. This guy absolutely killed it. He was in the top 3 best sets of the conference for me. Even though there were very few people down stairs, and the music was very pitched down and quite housey, I stood right front and center, barely spoke a word and rocked the fuck out for the entire duration of his set. He was SO good. From a guy that was completely off my radar, I can't believe how floored I was by him. I'm happy that Shaun Reeves showed up late, because Tolfrey played an extra long set.
After Tolfrey was finished, I went upstairs to catch the end of Damian Lazerus' set, and was surprised to see Tania Vulcano make a surprise appearance. Considering her set got cut short at Circo Loco, I was happy to hear her play there.
Then came the techno and tech-house beat downs by Konrad Black and Mr. C respectively. Mr. C and Konrad Black, with their no-nonsense, drugged-the-fuck-out techno and tech house sets changed Get Lost from a "really good" afterhours party, to a full-throttle, world-class, hedonistic free for all. Think DC-10, Panorama Bar: from this point on, this party had it all. I don't know what these two did, but the two of them removed the pin that held together any remnance of order that the party had left.
Mr C. started his set off by playing 4 of the most ridiculous tech house songs I've ever heard in my life. I can't even describe them. All I could do was just yell "what the fuck?!" and "oh my god!" repeatedly during those 4 tracks. Then Konrad Black came on and played techno like it was meant to be played. Banging, and no time for rest, anyone in the crowd will remember the name "Konrad Black" for some time to come. Afterward, Mr. C came back on again and made everyone in the room Get completely Lost. Interestingly, as his set progressed, instead of speeding it up, he slowed it down. By the end he was playing so slow that the crowd was completely hypnotized, brought to a level that I for one never even knew existed.
Once Mr C. was finally done, we came outside for some house grooves from Clive Herny and Dyed Soundorom. After what Mr C. and Konrad Black had done inside, the crowd was in complete shambles. Everyone was rocking out soooo hard, and no one gave a fuck about anything but the there and now. The sun was blaring down on the crowd, people were sweating, pounding drinks, and dancing it like it was the last moment on earth. People were wearing ridiculous costumes, and acting in a way that they would likely never act anywhere else. From 2:30-6:30pm I saw Clive Herny, Jamie Jones, Dyed Soundorom, Seth Troxler, Damian Lazarus and Shaun Reeves play a set and created an atmosphere that I don't think I will have the pleasure of enjoying again for a very long time. They played that new-school housey sound, with fun intstrumentals, vocals and groove. It was impeccable for the atmosphere. And yes, the atmosphere was sketchy, but there is a certain atmosphere and vibe that doesn't happen unless unbridled hedonism is allowed to happen. Think DC-10, think Panorama Bar, all of these parties are what they are because they are some of the few places where people are allowed to do whatever the fuck they want. And when people are allowed to do this, magic happens. Something indescribable takes place when people take it to a level that they will likely only take it a few times in their lives. It was almost as if heaven was shining down on those lucky few that were on the Electric Pickle patio that afternoon.
Get Lost was leaps and bounds better than any party I went to in Miami. Not to say that the other parties weren't good, but Get Lost was truly something special that I will try to make it to once again during my life. The music was 10/10 for the entire day. So much variety, and every DJs were playing their hearts out. Anyone who knows me know I do not give this kind of praise about music very often.
Sunday School for Degenerates:
I had a good time at this party. Kudos to Sunday School for trying to give the line-up more of a variety (re: booking housier DJs outside during the day). I really enjoyed the vibe inside during Beyer vs. Ida, and during Paco. However, I found this party to be a lot more chill than I thought it would be, and the music left a bit to be desired. Then again, I think I was just way too spoiled after Get Lost, and was a bit partied out after the week. I would go to this party again if I came back to Miami, but it is questionable whether it was worth $70 or not.
Noteable sets of the day go to Tom Middleton for playing bumpy house outside during the day, and Agoria for playing acid techno inside. Paco was also really good to close the day out.
In conclusion, WMC and South Beach fucking rock. I was actually quite skeptical about it before I went, but I now see what the hype is about. I don't think I'll be able to make it back next year, but
It is also worth noting that this week wouldn't have been what it was if it wasn't for the great group of people I was with. Everyone I was with was on the same level, no drama, and one special person put a LOT of effort into making this trip what it was (thanks Shelley).
I couldn't have asked for a better graduation trip. =D
I will definitely try to make it back to WMC again.
