Instead of all of these million dollar prizes, why not dole out a few thousand $100,000 prizes as well???

1 in 13 million to win $10 million? Pfft.

1 in 86 million for a chance at winning $50 million! Absolutely!

I guess you can't put a price on dreams.

Like stated earlier the odds are always the same. Also the odds are just over 28 million to 1, not 86 since u get 3 lines for every play.

At the club last night, a buddy tells me he won the Lotto Max...

I question since no one won the jackpot and he says that he won 7 G's and shows me the ticket with the winning amount on it...

FML...

Good for him though...

Posted by Adam420 on Jun-20-2010 19:27:

Damn...

A group of us at work (7) actually got 5 out of 7 matches, so that's $126. I wish we had another match, but maybe this luck will carry over to future draws.

Posted by jester on Jun-20-2010 19:36:

Maybe I'll buy in this week.

Imagine winning the $50 million and an extra $1 million

I would use that $1 million to do the most absurd shit money could buy

That is actually a good idea.

They have these uber-lotteries in Europe (mostly the messed-up PIGS countries) where they have tens of thousands of prizes (maybe 100k++, it seems like everybody wins something). The money spent on them is insane and they pay out a vast majority of the lotto intake.

with these carryover draws the total prizes awarded out is higher than sales for that week so its actually a good roi

not that I'll play, thanks guys for paying your idiot tax for me thou

Digi does have a point....the probability of winning the $50 Million doesn't change but the Odds of you being the only winner of the $50 Million does decrease with the more tickets sold.

Lotto Max is 7 numbers. Normal Lotto 6-49 is 6 numbers (duh). Can you see how the odds of picking 7 correct numbers are much lower than picking 6?

I assume that by "good" you actually mean "better", since the expectation value is less than 1/100th of a penny. As ChemEnhanced pointed out, the vastly-increased number of people buying tickets pretty much nullifies the effect of any carryover draws; everybody else is in the same position as you and the effect is cumulative. Unless you win the jackpot (for which the odds are truly pathetic), you're liable to find that your $1 million winning ticket is worth a lot less than $1 million.

If you say so. Point is, it's worse odds for a lower payout. You'd be better off playing the Lotto 6-49 on any regular week. (Even then it's still one of the worst ways to gamble)

True. Better to save up your year's worth of lotto tickets and go play one red/black bet on the roulette.

Posted by magikb on Jun-25-2010 15:51:

I got another ticket for tonight.. I'm just gonna be a dreamer
I played the same random numbers the machine spit out last week again this week... wishful thinking that that will make the difference!

Posted by jester on Jun-25-2010 16:52:

Fuck I knew I forgot to buy something when I went to the grocery store just now...

Guess I should go back soon
