Well, Lira, I'm writing a novella, or so I think it'll be a novella (it began as a short story). What I want to know is this:

If a man is clearly intelligent, speaks volubly on a wide variety of topics (and not glibly), but is, however, the ideological antithesis to whichever sort of woman you can conjure (or young woman who is still in that process of finding her identity, as far as the general shaping of her convictions is concerned)--then would that woman, who we'll pretend is magnanimous enough to see past this man's looks, still be attracted to him in any sense of the word?

Maybe the question is a bit of a contradiction in itself, but I'm trying to see if this whole "opposites attract" idea isn't limited to (seemingly) superficial attributes (such as an introverted personality posted against an extroverted personality (Calvin & Grace Coolidge, for example)).

Men who act hot are so fucking powerful.
A man with mediocre looks can achieve immense hotness with the right ingredients.

The right ingredients according to Ania:

- carries himself with slight arrogance that is in no way offensive
- admits when wrong and doesn't flinch, but recovers quickly
- traditionally chivalrous (opens doors, lets woman walk ahead)
- is aware of the fact that women like to feel that they are in charge, but also need to feel protected - acts accordingly
- likes what he does for a living (there is nothing more unattractive than a man who fucking hates what he does and complains about it ... even if you like what you do for the sole reason that you make a lot of money)
- drives a solid car (Doesn't have to be a BMW, but I'm sorry but you're not going to be hot driving around a clunky piece of shit)
- addresses everyone with courtesy and respect (be it the CEO or the cashier at McDonald's)
- is confident and secure enough that he doesn't feel the need to voice his opinion on everything
- debates successfully

An average Joe with the above qualities becomes fucking Hercules.

I love hot men.
God bless them.

Depends on the woman, the way I see it. I've always told everyone that I'm the complete antithesis of my fiancée, yet in the end we became a bit like one another (just slightly, though ). That's because both of us were willing to work our differences out, however.

I know lots of people that couldn't stand the friction right from the beginning though. Keep in mind that most relationships fail and, as Sartre said, finding your partner is more like grinding two different shapes that aren't supposed to go together than just finding "your other half".

I hope that helps... I guess...

I think anyone trying to find an inherent gender difference is going to fail, or point to isolated incidences and try to generalize those for a whole gender, which also fails. Our brains aren't all that different, except by weight. Our thought process aren't all that different. Women aren't less aggressive/more nurturing "naturally"; that's been socialized into women. Males aren't oversexed and ready to fight at a moment's notice; that's also been socialized.

Gender's only a big deal if you make it one, but it has been made one, which is unfortunate for those who simply don't identify with their biological sex.

This probably doesn't have any relevance but Males being over sexed doesn't really mean they will screw anyone. You can be over sexed with a monogamous partner who they are deeply attracted to and in love with, thus wanting to share that bond with your monogamous partner countless times a day. And if you the Female feels the same, you now have something special.

I read somewhere (and I wish I could find the source but it has been years) but you know the old story about Males wanting to soil their royal oats, to more than likely have as many children as possible (especially Boys that become Men to care on tradition, morals, and religion). This way of thinking is very very outdated and doesn't apply much now days because of child support and what not's but back in the day it was from what I have seen acceptable.

Where Women seem to be the ones that were always getting hurt by that old standard in those times are actually are more aggressive these days because they have more rights and freedom (and I am all for equality between men and woman) I know some woman that run circles around my intelligence and I'm not afraid to admit it.

To get to the meat & potatos of what I am trying to say, I think Woman are more wired to colllect as much sperm as possible so they may bare that genius child with the right genitcs from a Man they see fit. So, basiclly from what I read ...Men soiling their royal oates to inpregnate as many woman as possible to make that child that will up hold their standards and beleifes is actually not as strong as a Womans need to collect as much sperm from one Man or many Men so that they will bare that genius child. Most of us come from a generation rasied by Woman (quoting Fight Club)

I feel that is a difference in the wiring in Men and Woman that has been overlooked.

I'm not saying it is true but I did read this.

This is exactly the awkward conversation taking place in this picture.

Honestly I think that the biggest difference is that women are batshit crazy.

I'm going to take this one step further and suggest that women are AWARE of the fact that they often behave like lunatics.

Men seldom behave so; but when they do, they rarely understand the source of their mental instability. This makes it often impossible to come to a resolution. It is fucking irritating.

Posted by MrJiveBoJingles on Jun-21-2010 04:11:

That sounds about right. When men go nuts they usually accuse the whole rest of the world of being crazy and wrongheaded. Case in point: ********.

This is actually a well documented stress response by females called "tend and befriend". Females uniquely respond to stress by protecting themselves through nurturing behaviour and forming alliances with social groups - whereas men engage in activities to take their mind off the event. Men are also more likely than females to self-medicate their problems. The influence of gender roles across cultures obviously has a lot to do with coping styles as well. In Western culture it's more socially acceptable for women to lament their problems, while it's the norm for men to "tough it out". I'm sure it's not the sole reason why they do it, but perhaps taking the practical approach to solving problems is a way for men to behave within the acceptable norm.
