I like the promo cd and thought it was a good deal.. Although I had to ask the ticket lady to fork over the goods! and then she looked at me with an angry face. It's not like I asked for it in a mean way?? there should also be a proper line up to teh booths and maybe 5-6 ticket booths available..
Loving the new paint job on the exterior of guv... they should do a bit of changes to skybar as well.

| Originally posted by ChemEnhanced The CD is pretty good....good chill out music. I agree with everyone that the openers were complete utter shit.....I almost left because I just couldn't take it. I will say that I am sick of people chanting for a DJ when other DJs are spinning....even if you don't like who's spinning show a little respect. Lawler was great.....anytime a DJ can make me pull out the chicken dance and the macarena in one night is doing something right. The hardest part about the night was dealing with the crowd.....it wasn't overly packed and I had lots of room to dance when I wanted it but wow what a change in the crowd over the last 10 years. The number of completely mangled people just disgusted me....seriously, all the mangled people to the back of the bus. It was great running into some old faces that I haven't seen in awhile....even the one asian couple that somehow always seems to dance beside me when I'm at guv...I think they may be swingers. |

Some jackass walked right into me as he was trying to squeeze by and then rather than offering a simple apology he looked at me and said 'Don't do that man!'. WTF?! Indeed.

(enter comment about how horrible Darius Syrossian & Nyra were here)

My expectations weren't very high, and they were met for the most part. Lawler's intro in the main room gave me chills; I can't remember this happening in past sets. Like others have said, he completely lost us when he played that electro track.. thankfully his skybar set was incredible. I enjoyed it even more so than 2005.. and that's saying a lot..

| Originally posted by chinamon remember last year everyone said the same thing about the junkies when they opened for lawler on skybar? but we all know the junkies can blow the place apart. i also know that darius syrossian and nyra can blow the place apart as well. coincidence? i think not. |

ill try to make this short
got there around 2 and the main room wasnt as packed as usual but that could because it wasnt canada day or a long weekend. pretty minimal beats.. the openers were horrible and sounded really off. i got really bored really easily and i was itching to get up to skybar. bouncers werent letting anyone up until 4am which was really annoying. im not sure why, but the last few times ive been there its usually been around 2am. maybe because skybar was at capacity but whatever. lawler dropped a pretty sick track at 3:41. dont know what was but it was probably one of the best he played in the main room. after reading speculations on his performances in the main room prior to going into this event it pretty much sums up that he cant or doesnt rock the main room like any other room ive seen him in. TIL in november and circa on nye were much better. the last two times hes been here. The crowd wasnt that great... but more asians than normal (or maybe i just havent been there in a long time to remember). too many n00b sketches make me want to stop going to places like these.
4am i went up to the drink only to see it empty and no line up to go to skybar. which was a big surprise because in previous years there were long line ups to get to skybar at this time. Skybar was packed but not like previous lawler experiences. it took a while but he finally got on. overall he played good beats but the calibre of the party wasnt up to previous years. maybe because ive been to every lawler/skybar party, maybe because im losing it in the scene maybe because i cant stand people pushing/shoving me i dont know. i had a lot of fun mind you and he did play some good tracks that did make me want to get up and dance. i closed it out like any other lawler and i got home around 8. i found the crowd wasnt as into it as previous years ie. hand in the air... people jumping up and down etc.
although this review may seem a bit neutral or on the negative side it was actually a good party, maybe my experience wasnt as great as the next persons. most of my usuals that would come to this party weren't there so i didnt have the experience with them. im just glad i didnt blow a bunch of money on this night and im happy cover was only $25.
7/10

Also, it's a patio event. Don't forget that. |
