Now, now, children, let's all remember to do our research before we hastily insult our more "experienced" peers.

IIRC, people were taking about the floor emptying out quite a bit after Benassi at EDC, leaving A&B and Armin with a smaller crowd.

To me that just drives home the point that the "kids" love Benassi/Guetta/Deadmau5/Rusko, but could care less about the trance legends.

They love the Deadmau5 and Guetta, sure, because they get more mass-market media coverage. But going by reports it got emptier because people were leaving the field (probably to take breaks after being there for HOURS) and they weren't really letting new people on as people were leaving.

When is Menudo playing?

Nocturnals attendance will show how much the 18+ restriction will effect attendance at Massives...

this HAD to be a typo or just bad info, but the LA Times said there were only 4,100 people at the Love Festival this past Sat nite!

anyone here go?

Could be.

I just checked out a few youtube vids from there and the dance floors are not completely packed.

The arena's look kind of big though, so who knows?

You know, I just checked the lineup for Tomb of Doom again, and it actually looks pretty good. I guess I was just looking for huge names, but it seems pretty solid.

I still think they're going to add PVD. I don't know why, it's just a hunch. Isn't he about due to come to LA at this point?

I noticed on the website, Phantom Chamber says "featuring Carl Cox & Friends", is that a special Carl Cox show? Maybe he has his own lighting and sound setup and that's why he's not on the main stage?

phantom chamber is most likely inside the sports arena (with main stage outside again). I'd say sports arena is main stage enough

So now that Nocturnal is behind us, I guess it's time to turn the attention to MM.

This will be my 2nd massive, and after the amazing time I had at Nocturnal, I couldn't be more excited! Plus I have friends flying out from Atlanta for this.

I'm going the VIP route again. It'll be interesting to see how Go Ventures handles things because Insomniac did great with Nocturnal. At least I won't have to drive to the desert for this one.

EDIT: I also see a lot of stuff online about MM being terrible because of the crowds and stupid teenagers, but the 18+ rule and drug enforcement might make this the one to go to. At least I hope so!

Whats up Quazar! Glad you had fun at Nocturnal. Best time ever right? Yeah, Noc was the most organized massive I've been to and the production was just too amazing. I think a big part of it was the 18+ limitation. It really filtered out the idiotic kids which made for a much better crowd/vibe.

I've never been to MM before, but this year, I rather not celebrate my halloween at a club or a house party. I gotta experience this for once.

Although I've never been to MM, I would think the crowd would be more aggressive and less easy going than lets say Nocturnal. On the flip side, since it's 18+, it probably won't be super packed which is a great thing! Gotta have room to dance and roam about, yes?

I see not too many people on this thread are happy about the line up b/c the lack of trance DJ's. But I'm loving the line up for the main stage (one more trance dj would make it perfect though). The best thing about this line-up is the variety. I'm most passionate about trance but I also love dancing to house, and Axwell (best of SHM?) is gonna get that crowd rockin'. Digweed, I have not see him live either, but I can't wait for him to drop some prog house/tech house and at least one Eric Prydz track! I'm also pretty excited to check out a full set from Gareth for once and I've never seen Judge Jules live before either. All this on one stage! Nice

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see any dubst ep or drum and bass DJ's. I don't care too much about it but thats a huge EDM fanbase they're missing out on.

Anyway, tix are damn expensive. Buy on ticketmaster and I think you can save a couple bucks on the additional fees.

@dashdash

My VIP ticket for MM was the same price as the one for Nocturnal, so I guess it's not too big of a deal, especially considering that MM is a bigger event.

If the crowd is too aggressive for my tastes, I can just bail to the VIP areas I guess. :P

The lineup could certainly be better (I'd love to see one more trance DJ added, even if it's a small name), but it looks pretty good from a variety standpoint, like you said. Plus with all of the crazy sound and visuals, I'm sure I'll have a great time.

Plus, Gareth and Schossow!

I think the line up for monster this year is pretty dope, definitely a dark kind of sound this year. The main reason i'm going is so i can get my earful of cox! plus lawler, axwell and gareth make it icing on the cake. definitely hope its not too crowded, especially in the arena, cause i'm probably gonna have to bounce back and forth between the outdoor mainstage and the sports arena.

Posted by DaveT on Sep-27-2010 20:05:

MM VIP includes open vodka/beer bar.

It will be 18+, too, so I wouldn't say it's gonna be larger (crowd wise) than Nocturnal necessarily, especially with Hard Halloween happening the following weekend. Sure a lot of people will have to make a choice.

And unless Reza really ups it, don't expect the type of overall production you see from Insomniac (note: TAO is GoVentures and Insmniac, MM is just GoVentures) at MM. He finally raised the production level noticeably last year thanks the mainstage being moved outside, hopefully he ups it again.

Steve Lawler, Digweed and Carl Cox are enough to get me to this event

Hey Dave, it sounds like you went to MM last year. If so, just wondering how the outside stage Armin played at compared to the arena. Also, is it relatively a short walk from one stage to the other?

Posted by gypsygirl on Sep-27-2010 22:26:

i for one am super excited about this line up! Lawler, Moby, Carl Cox, Digweed!!!!! one of my favorite sets in ibiza was Cox and a couple years ago at DEMF Moby blew me away with a sick techno set. i'm really looking forward to this night of music. and of course lawler is one of my fav's

Posted by Quazar on Sep-27-2010 23:19:

As far as production goes, I can only base it on videos, but last year's MM looked nuts with the massive amounts of strobes and plumes of fire shooting up and stuff.

EDC had an amazing looking main stage, at least in videos, but Nocturnal's Labyrinth was pretty tame with decorations and stuff. I was expecting each area to be heavily decorated for its theme, but Lab was just a big tent and not much more. Sure, Alice's House was cool, but that's just one stage. Some of the hangers had decent decorations, though.

I'd be pretty disappointed if the main stage at Monster isn't at least as cool as it looked like it was last year.

Like a lot of people have said, it remains to be seen how the 18+ rule affects MM's attendance. I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't booked another huge name specifically because ticket sales so far have them a little worried.
