Future thinking...

because neighbourhoods gentrify. The ironic part is that if things were allowed the progress normally, clubs would have left that area long ago.

Problem is they arent allowed to open up anywhere anymore so they hold on to what theyve got.

This could become an election issue in the sense that it clearly illustrates that there is NO proper co-ordination within individual city departments/initiatives. You have Toronto Tourism, on one hand, spending a bunch of money on promoting all things T.O, including nightlife, yet you have city councillors blindly passing bylaws that DIRECTLY reduce any future growth in these same areas!

IDIOTS!

Taken from Highroller:

What else can be done about this? We should create an ongoing list of various courses of action we all can take to fight this

- Email/call/write on Facebook page of your City Councillor
- Email/call/write on Facebook page of candidates
- Write a letter to the editor of your favourite newspaper
- Create an online petition

Also please invite your friends list to the group. We will be using that group to update on further actions that will be taken. I have just been in contact with Candidate Mike Yen who is running against Adam Vaughan. It looks like we are going to work together on this.

ok, so i went on wikipedia to check out who is running in my ward.

why is each ward actually two wards?

i am st. paul. i know mihevic is my councillor, why is there another st. paul? i never heard of Matlow.

is this the stuff rob ford wants to get rid of? double councillors for each area.

I joined the facebook group. I'd be down for a protest irl if it comes to that, and I'm sure I can scrounge up other people.

so im in the process of updating the description. Then i am going to rename the group. I invite everyone to recruit as many members as possible.

I will then send out a press release to media organizations and candidates. You guys can also help by helping compile a list of media and candidates. (since i was in new york last week and didnt have time smuncky )

Now is the time to be heard since everyone wants votes!!!

You should definitely post this on BlogTO and Torontoist.

Thats cool but Kyle Rae isnt running for reelection so he wont matter in a month.

We should find out who is running in his ward and where they stand on this issue.

Still, great initiative!!!

Here is a list of current councilors that you can write to to express your disgust about the new restrictive nightclub and restaurant bylaws. Keep in mind that some will not be coming back after the election, but many will.

torontoist has a nice page with all the wards and who is running in them. some aren't up yet, but will be in the next couple of weeks.

joined Just like everyone else here, I find all this REALLY upsetting. The nightlife in this city is why I moved here in the first place. If it's gone, why stay?

Thank you! Please invite your friends list and encourage others to do the same. We are going to organize a media campaign with press releases based on this group.
