I may have missed out but who are the DJs already in the collective? I'm sure one way of getting more people is by knowing who they might potentially be grouped together with...no?

and FFS it's DJs (plural) not DJ's (possessive)

If you take the "industry" out of DJing, you don't have to worry about any of this shit, and are probably far more likely to go out and just do your own thing.

With all the new users signed up in the past couple days, and only posting about stuff like this, it was a natural assumption. Too many people hide behind other names/alias and are afraid to show their true colours. Send a mix my way mate. Feel free to click on the link in my sig yourself

Can the borg...I mean "Collective" please provide some names? Looks like the only people hyping this are people who signed up just for that purpose.

Please show us event flyers or videos...something that backs up the claims that you booked people at WMC/BPM etc

forget WMC/BPM..what about all those local parties?

and about 'meeting all the famous people'...it's really easy to do that without hookups...just walk up to the dj and say "hey how's it going" if you don't freak them out by telling them you're their number 1 fan, they'll actually chat with you.

We don't want phone numbers. Just want to know who all fall under the Toronto Collective. That's all. Why is it such a secret?

I, personally, would like to know what I would be trying hard to affiliate myself with. Why should I have to drop you a line to find it out? why is there no list somewhere that shows who all comprise this collective? just curious. That's all.

lol...you guys are hilarious!!! I really don't understand why everyone is giving these guys such a hard time (well, accept that it's on TA of course!). It sounds like they are giving their guys a fair chance at opening for some bigger names which would be great exposure for any DJ wanting to get grow their fan base. Sure you have to work a bit for it, but trust me, you have to do that for any club....especially when you first start getting in the door.

Brennen and LKD......you both DJ and don't play out that much in the city. So why would you be giving these guys such a hard time instead of maybe seeing if they can do something for your DJ career? Best case scenario you get to open for a big name, worst case scenario you realize it's a shit deal and walk away? Playing at the BPM Conference would be a awesome experience for a up and coming DJ!

You know me...I can't join a group of people if there's even one person I dislike...and I 'dislike' quote a few people in the 'scene'...I'm not gonna blindly strive to get into a group without knowing for sure that there isnt someone else on the roster I can't stand. Based on the defense techniques on here and how redundant all posts have been, my initial interest to...I guess apply, even though not mentioned...has been lost.

I'm part of my own collective which is small and probably not going to be big anytime soon (hell who knows if ever) but I'm fine with that. Opening for a big name isn't a status symbol to me.

Cam you're right and wrong. Its true I don't play out much but frankly I really don't mind. The DI thing keeps me motivated and gives me a chance to play to an international audience, you never know who might be listening. I know how it works Cam, you have to be at every party talking to every promoter and club owner every weekend and hopefully after a few weeks you get booked. I wish I was able to support all the great nights in this city and amazing djs we have but my budget doesn't allow it.

Toronto at the moment is in the Tech House phase, that makes things a little more difficult for me seeing as I play techno, and I'm ok with that. That's why I'm throwing my own party. Hopefully its a success and builds my name and brand a bit more.

If people don't book you say "FUCK IT" and throw your own party :P

I'm just giving them a hard time because they have been vague with their answers...and because its TOTA LOL. If what they are saying is true (and im not saying its not) then they wouldn't need to post on TA looking for djs...just seems like there is a catch. I apologize to them if they are offended. Im just very skeptical of everything lol

My biggest concern with joining 'the collective' would be the necessary concessions I would have to make.

Personally, i like techno, pounding prog and tech house. I despise swedish house mafia cheese, mash up, or any of that afrojack noise. I don't know if Id be able to get away playing what I like given the commercial nature of the events and especially after looking at some of the line ups.

Like Brennen said, there's a certain merit in throwing your own events and not having to sacrifice your musical integrity. That being said there are a ton of new dj's that absolutely adore that new pop-house sound.. and maybe this is their key to success.

If the collective starts booking in CZ or Footwork let me know.. ive always wanted to spin there =)
