stop right there, enough said. What more do you want?

but sometimes legends are manufactured for other purposes. Just his status as "a legend", not his history. I mean, by this, if you read some other big artist's bio, one that has been around for a long time, then it is likely to say similar things. It would be cool if someone (mostly likely one who has been around a long time) could say if Sven's music has lived up to his status, up to the present era of clubbinghood.

Why do you need to hear someone else's opinion, do the research yourself. Browse through his entire discography and songs from 1985 onwards and compare it to any other producer AND djS who have been doing this for an equal amount of time. See how hey rank up and then lets see your response.

honestly im lazy, but curious. and there's always a difference between an artist's discography&spinning skills and their status in the scene. like, if you take Sasha, do you think his status disproportionate to his music?

This is what the op wanted to have answered. Is Sven's status disproportionate? -- the next question follows: is his status up there mostly because of his shenanneganisms?

yes? no?

(from 1985-present Biosphere is the best, but he only does live PAs so that's kind of a disqualification. mebbe Juan Atkins? Carl Craig? Moritz von Oswald? Aphex Twin?)

Sorry Spaniard, but the video you posted was taken completely out of context. He isn't even playing!
----------------
People like this guy cause of the music, he has stayed at the front of people's minds, cause of the music, he gets booked for a lot of money, cause of the music. Nobody is bringing him in for the 100 people at the front who can see him dancing around like a gnome. They are paying him to fill the club, or festival with a unique sound that people truly enjoy.

What ever else he may or may not get up to in the booth, is complete icing on the cake.

Yep.

I'd say the same applies to Aphex Twin, his craziness is just an added bonus and really the only crazy thing I've seen RDJ do in a vid (never seen him live sadly and would kill for it) was to lay down on the FLOOR while playing a gig.

I think you're missing the point. If you think that the video I posted is the only time Sven has done something on stage to that extent, you're only fooling yourself. I could post more but I don't want to take this thread into the direction of a Sven shenanigan archive.

I can't say that the second part is entirely true so maybe it's better you speak on your behalf. Sure, you like him for the music and I would to if he appealed more to me, but that's not The impression I've got from most people in this forum. is that it hasn't entirely been about the music (there's nothing wrong with this, everyone is entitled to their opinion... I just wish I could get some opinions from personal belief rather than everyone discussing my opinion). Infact some of those threads IIRC, had videos of his shenanigans and other people commenting on how 'amazing' he is for it. That I think is attention worthy so I brought it up. If this was Digweed or Sasha for example, there would be no discussion since their crowd interaction is based soley on their music rather than physical presence.

Anyways, to be quite honest, I'm done posting in this thread because now every response is going to be attacking my opinion rather than other people giving theirs like it's been the past couple of threads. I respect everyone's opinion and thanks to the few (like you Bobby) who actually adressed the subject.

Hate to interject but your reply really confuses me, SPANIARD. First of all, nowhere in the opinion that you replied to did I read that the author was of the opinion whatsoever about the number of times or degree to which Sven Vath has taken up antics onstage. So what's the point in saying "if you think [. . .] the only time Sven has done something on stage to that extent, you're only fooling yourself"? To me, this just seems to be unnecessarily confrontational. I don't think these replies are meant to attack you, but you have said you feel that way, and it shows through your choice of articulation.

I feel that Orko's response was well-balanced - and whether or not he may 'speak for himself' in the opinion, I think that a lot of people DO enjoy Vath's music; thus the comment seems to be a reasonable response in regard to how the house scene responds to Sven at large, on the whole, rather than a perhaps more narrow personal opinion.

According to Sven's facebook - he will be at Cochella, DEMF and making an appearance in NYC.

Bobby and I saw him at the Warehouse Project on Friday and he was not crazy and did not really have any antics to speak of.

The party was bananas... people were going nuts and it was the most fun I have had out at a club in a long time. I was quickly reminded why he is one of our favorites.

Bring on 2011

I agree! That's the first time I'm seeing that vid. Hilarious....lol. Was the track ID'd in the other thread? I want it!!

Posted by PurpleHaze on Dec-16-2010 21:57:

NICE! I'll check him out at DEMF!!

Posted by Special K on Dec-16-2010 23:09:

Well, Coachella is going down mid April and DEMF is late May. That leaves plenty of time in between to bring him here or Montreal. I still have not been to the new Stereo, I have been waiting for something extra special or out of the ordinary to go there and i'd totally make the trip up there to see him play if that goes down. DEMF would be fun, but i'd also like to see him in a smaller club type environment where he could play for longer.
