-- Can't make up my mind about the new Deadmau5 album
Pages (4): « 1 2 [3] 4 »
Unrelated, but I was going through some old videos I had and came across a clip with Chris Lake in deadmau5's studio. Hard to believe that was around four years ago!
its his best album.

Lol @ Kismet.

| Originally posted by srussell0018 Then don't. People here are all thinking of Deadmau5 NOW and not when he began his rise to fame. He didn't always use the farty bass sounds, and he didn't always cater to the millions of fans who just want to hear radio edm. The thread was started as a discussion of his newest album, not as a discussion about him as a person. I've done my share of Deadmau5 hating, but I realized it's pretty pointless, and crying on message boards about somebody (and let's be honest, a number of people on here hate him for who he is as a person, not his music) really doesn't make you feel any better. Or maybe it does, but you just look like an idiot when you chime in on Deadmau5 threads over and over and over saying the exact same things. On Topic: The new album is alright. I'm not a huge fan of the direction he's heading, but such is life. |

I like Deadmau5 but I'm just over this sound in general. I think he's talented and has done some great work but I'm just over the same sound. I know it's popular and what makes all the kidies go crazy but as an artist I would hope he would start moving on sound wise.

Wow, what's with the facepalm pictures? So stupid...at least try and explain your point.
The "objective talent" kind of debate is an argument I've had a lot of times, mostly withint eh context of rock music. It always goes like this:
You might like the way a guitar player plays (subjective, the way he feels the guitar) but theres certain guitar players who are technically more talented, objectively more talented (i.e eddie van halen, or any virtuoso guitar player) who can play a higher level of technicality (bigger stretches, hitting more notes in per second) but can't write songs.
it applies the same way in EDM

Really, he's just another zitfaced pasty bedroom geek who happened to discover some unique fart bass sounds (which anyone can do these days) in fl studio and decided to market it all off with endless boredom in front of a few virtual synths and a ridiculous red helmet. Quit blowing smoke up his ass. |

I like some of deadmau5's music which is mainly his first album along with some of his older releases. I thought the last album was medicore but this new album is even worse imo. The only track I like on the album is the last track which is actually an older track. Right This Second is an OK track but sounds just like Ghost N Stuff and I can't stand any of the vocal and dubset tracks.

Deadmau5 sucks.

I can't for the life of me do what Deadmau5 can do.. why? Because I lack that talent. "Logical fallacy" my ass. With that said (prepare to  my post, kidz), the level of player hating in this thread is astounding to say the least. I even caught myself disliking Deadmau5 simply because of some of the negativity you people seemed to have garnered for this artist, who's currently making waves in the mainstream. I come here on TA to read what other people think, to get a good balanced gauge of what's going on. And I must say, one must be careful in reading everything here. For all we know, you all could be disinfo agents, hired shills of competing labels who come here to hate on Deadmau5. I actually liked the "Cthulhu Sleeps" track, I wish I could rock a crowd like that (look up the live video on YT). And by the way, I still hold respect for Anjunabeats, still have some hope for Tiesto and Armin, as well as trance in general. We all grow and change, I know, but I'm not going to let a bunch of antagonizing message board warriors take the place over completely and dictate what's "talented" or not. I enjoy the posts, to everyone, it's been a good read. |
I ask again - how can someone be "factually talented"? What are the facts that measure talent?
Well that certainly isn't the only hilarious thing I see here. Why do you keep defending him? I think it is at least as "hilarious" as people saying he sucks.

I just do not see anything obvious here. I do not see what sets this guy apart from the rest, apart from the giant mouse head. Although I also have to admit I don't know much of his works.
You only think he is talented because you like him, which is completely understandable. But there are a lot of people who think the complete opposite of his talent than you do - that is also completely understandable. That's why the whole "he's obviously talented and anyone who disagrees is an idiot" argument doesn't really work.
I guess we just see things differently - I don't think skill and talent are the same thing. I think anyone can be skilled with enough practice but only the truly talented stand out from the crowd... and you can't really measure talent with success either because sometimes true talents are completely unknown.
I'd write more but I'm doing this on my phone and it's taking ages. I hope you see what I'm trying to say.
My final opinion on deadmau5:
Afterall, cheese does tend to stand out more vibrantly. Sheep will swallow anything widely accessible.
@ Seandroid - if you don't know what '8th notes' means in reference to deadmau5, you haven't been around long enough to gauge this guy's talent. for the most part, it's not strained. He's in his 20s now, but hes been producing for prolly around 10 years. Long enough to make farty basslines with ease.
this negative marketing shit is amazing tho. we prolly generate more deadmaufive fans through the hate than through whatever fans he has flooding forums.
