Many Americans hate Americans (or large swathes of them, anyway), too.

I think the main reason why people hate Americans is because they are overly patriotic, and a lot of the times just plain ignorant. Like it or not, A LOT of Americans have no idea what the fuck goes on outside the US.

I am American, am not fat, and do pay attention to what's going on in the world, outside of the United States. I'm definitely not overly patriotic, having strong beliefs that there are many, many things wrong with America.

There are definitely millions of Americans just like you, there's no doubt about it. Unfortunately, most of the world doesn't see that, they see the lard-ass gun-toting flag-bearing pick-up driving hillbillies. It sucks but there are no positive stereotypes, except for maybe.. Asians are good at math.

You really have a way with words. I'd have to agree with everything said here, but discourage you from trying to have an intelligent discussion with the unintelligent.

Unfortunately, our image is currently being managed by the lunatic fringe. While they've done an excellent job, as far as the volume of prolific outreach goes, the brand truly is all-the-more tarnished for it.

More educated and cosmopolitan Americans tend to be less loud and proud about the U.S., especially these days, so they get a lot less press. Many of them are themselves busy criticizing America's faults.

I'm not talking about any posts in this thread, but this is something I've noticed frequently on TA. Someone makes a post mostly devoid of original content and meaningful insights, just some intellectual rambling either relativating everything or cleverly pointing out obvious truths.
