90% of club goers are drunk/drug addicts in the first place. Ok NO I'm sorry thats not true, many people go sober just because they love the music

I was at a club last night and just so happens someone had got in a huge bag of shrooms. Seems like every other person I saw was high, drunk, or shrooming. I wound up going outside for 2 hours waiting for a taxi that never came. But I had more fun outside alone then around those mindless fucks. I am definitely not a club person and always enjoy my music alone in the car, gym, work, school, or w/e. But definitely not around a bunch of hi fucks who aren't even listening to the music. Although I'm sure I'm just missing all the good clubs lol.

The only perspective anyone should be trying to understand is Bluemans. I'd also love to see these "muddy" melodies you people speak of. And no you can't link youtube vids because I know thats the only place you're hearing them. Try buying his music it might sound clearer to you.
Blueman is a talented artist imo and Kysora just linked one song which for a nonfollower would really not change much opinion at all. I honestly don't give a fuck if you like him or not. I do and thats all that really counts. But the assholes making a big deal about a stupid blog, please, get a life. And the problem is not your english kenny rogers ken lee palm w/e the fuck your name is. The problem is sometimes you just say incredibly stupid things, quite like kitphillips, quite like richie v, quite likey mystery, quite like myself.. and a lot of people on this forum.
So no I don't think your evil, but gzz who cares? Bluemans awesome. If you don't think so, than we'll just fight and get it over the easy way.

Did you go to Jersey Shore?

Raphie: there is still plenty of money to be made with edm. you just need to know where to look . Especially as a label.

I barely knew who andy blueman was when this thread came up.

Firstly his "film score" stuff is nothing that I haven't heard from any one of a thousand penniless composers trying to get a real film gig. Bear in mind I work in the score industry for the guys he's so obviously trying to copy (one, my boss, springs to mind in particular).

I've now taken the time to listen to a few and while I;ve certainly heard worse, it's fairly generic and nothing I haven't heard before. It's also completely different thing to actually score to pitcure and I can't even begin to explain how much more complex that aspect is over just writing some orchestra music and adding filmesque sounds.

In fact, I have a business interest in a day spa (random, I know) and I had to select all the music for the rooms. That track the Ky posted with the flute sounds like ever other fucking track on those boring as shit spa compilation CD's that are a dime a dozen.

Not trying to burst your bubble Ky, and he obviously isn't a bad producer, but sometimes people quite when they have got big in an attempt to immortalise their current status at the top of their game....but I also think he wants to cause a stir and he wouldn't be the first to do this exat same thing in the hopes of getting score work, where the money is VERY serious.

I do get he's maybe bored of the politics and business side, which is completely understandable and I've seen many a talented producer move on to other things from their experiences but I just think theres more to it.

@kit, you're not totally wrong, but not having an education is the extreme exception to the rule. For a start very few places will give you a foot in the door (getting tea) without a degree in music composition or similar

Yeah - whore yourself for money.

I still wouldn't get any offers if I did it for free.

Is it so hard to believe that the guy has just lost his passion for making trance music and wants to move on to a different area, one where his passion currently lies? Why does there have to be more to it?

I think you're being far too cynical. While I care little for Bluemans trance tunes, I respect the guy for moving on when his love for this music has died, when he could so easily churn out countless more tunes over the next few years, cashing in on his established name, getting plenty of DJ gigs etc etc.

I think you must be one of an incredibly small minority of producers who make music that is in a style they rarely enjoy listening to.

In fact, were it not for you, I wouldn't have believed there could be producers like you. Bizarre!

O rly? you haven't been in the MD in the last 3 years??
I'm sure that Osterzone(sp?) made 5 threads about him and i'm sure that in one point you came into one of them and called it "Generic tripe".

I've heard so much generic tripe I can't keep track of every Tom, Dick & Blueman.

Posted by DJ Robby Rox on Jan-01-2011 23:19:

It seems like every "experienced" producer in here has a knack for bashing people who have blown up in some way and refering to their music as "generic" or what they do for a living as something a 5 year old could do.
No matter what, its always mostly negative degrading bs. I've heard your own work mystery, and if blueman is "generic tripe" your music is the maggots that feed off my shit as it rots in the summer heat. And DJ Rann, I know you do this for a living, I respect your opinions on so many things in this forum, but sometimes you come off entirely too negative/paranoid. Even to allude to the idea that Blueman stole some idea from your boss sounds preposterous. And you saying that just seems like you're trying to give your own boss (and yourself) a perceptual boost in the music world.
I know you're a smart fuck, and I know mystery and richie and lolo all have these seasoned esoteric views of what "quality" means. But a lot of you sound more bitter than anything. Not lolo he always seems to temper his posts with a bit of optimism. What is SO HARD about giving another man credit? I barely even see an effort at all in that regards. But I always see an effort to shit on people who are established.

It's amazing to me that something as simple as one artist, who doesn't even post here AFAIK, can blog about something as seemingly inconsequential and boring as changing styles and ignite this kind of reaction.

That said, I'm not trying to be cool, but I'm really not familiar with Blueman either, other than in name and probably having heard some of his stuff at some point. So, maybe I'm missing the importance of this, in which case please feel free to enlighten me as to how relevant his announcement is to the EDM industry/scene as a whole. I guess I'm just lacking some perspective here.

I agree cryo and that would have been the "normal" way for this thread to go.

1) Andy Blueman made a blog that he's not doing trance anymore.

Responses: That sucks I liked him

or: I didn't know him but its normal for artists to do that.

INSTEAD on TA we get

1) Andy Blueman made a blog that he's not doing trance anymore.

Responses: Who? Who the fuck is this asshole and how dare he make a blog that concieted shit!! Maybe I should make a blog too.

or: BOO!!! His music sucks!! Trance sucks! The world is coming to an end May 12, 2011 blame blueman for it!

> His musics not bad my favorite song is x
> That song sucks!! Wheres the "pulse"? He's a loser and trance blows blah blah
> Percussions more important than melodies..
> NO melodies more important than percussion..
> I'm posting just to let you all know that I don't know blueman
> You're cool
> No I'm not
> Hey guys I don't know blueman either!
> Yeh me too this thread sucks, Kysora needs to go clubbin and drop E. Maybe then he'll know what good trance sounds like.

Its really just a disease of egos it seems. People here are extremely unagreeable, and everyone wants to seem like they have a voice and in order to do so are always trying to prove the other person wrong or degrade their point of view. This thread got off topic the second ken_lee had to post his irrelevant philosophies about bloggin (which was like the 3rd post) and everyone else after that seemed to jump on the bangwagon.

I'm farrr from perfect but its really funny to watch how quickly things escalate on this forum.

Well maybe he has just lost his passion, but he's obviously attempted some score work and frankly, when you see the sort of pay that is involved for even one small or medium budget scoring gig it will make a struggling trance producer seriously question their direction, especially if money is a consideration for their art. That's why I have my suspicions.....

And let's get real here - it's not as if he's been producing in the golden age of trance or something - and frankly I can't name a single track or classic that he's produced.

So maybe I am a little cynical and in fairness I don't really listen to much trance at all but I think this is all a bit if a storm in a teacup. Good on him if anything, there's nothing worse than doing something you hate just because you can't find a way out....to many big names have done that and it shows....

i like to affect people to get the same opinions as me. if money is his reason then hes even a bigger ass than i first assumed.

Degrees in music are just like degrees in anything else. Does having one help you to start out and get jobs? Absolutely, but it's not an absolute necessity. If you're good, you're good, and only a fool would not hire you.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Jan-02-2011 01:17:

in most places you wont even get to the first interview without education AND a resume. dont give me that fuck school stuff.

Posted by Aesthetic on Jan-02-2011 01:32:

Tiesto's magik 6 is what got me in to trance. Seeing him play Silence live in 2000 was a defining moment in my life.

I haven't been regularly going to clubs for the past couple of years but I still enjoy trance, and some of the new artists like Gareth Emery etc.

I really have no idea where this thread is going

Posted by Fledz on Jan-02-2011 01:33:

I never gave you the fuck school stuff. I'm a big supporter of getting a degree to help you in your career. Shit, I'm doing postgrad next year for gods sake.
But...if you turned up somewhere with 10 years experience in a relevant field, without a degree, you think any decent recruiters would give a shit? They would not. If they do, you don't want to work there anyway.

I like what uplifting trance can be but really don't like what most artists do with it. That video posted a while ago of the similarities between trance melodies where there's a collection of about 100 tracks that all have the same rhythm and movement is just embarrassing to me. I actually really enjoy writing and producing uplifting tracks but so much of the genre is boring and uninspired, it gives people a negative attitude towards the genre as a whole when there are some extremely good hidden gems amongst the disposable shit that gets so much airplay.

Problem is most of those gems rely on songwriting to stand out from the crowd since the "sound" of uplifting trance is usually so similar between artists. People don't pay enough attention to the actual songwriting, it's all technical and dependent on the quality of the mix and innovative sound design that all of the gorgeous melodies and progressions in uplifting trance are wasted on anyone not willing to give it a chance.

But then you get the "well why should that matter? You're supposed to dance to trance, not 'appreciate the songwriting'" argument which just fucking bothers me. I don't know why people can't just like what they like without letting their preferences dictate what they perceive to be "right" and "wrong" in trance. You like danceable, catchy tracks, good for you, but that doesn't give you the right to say people like me or Blueman or whoever are out of our minds for not paying attention to aspects like those when we make music. It's a conscious choice, not an accidental mistake, and we're not inferior producers because of it.

Posted by DJ Robby Rox on Jan-02-2011 02:08:

Well I understand your point palm and at least you stay true to the purist way of life.
I just think its a bit too convenient to assume that greed is one of his major motivators. I mean greed is a byproduct of survival, which is a natural human instinct, so its hard for me to bash anyone really on those grounds.
I'd rather raise the flag on the people who are actively implementing shady business practice and driving industries to a monopoly rather than someone like blueman whos had rather modest beginings. I mean the guy came into the scene with no real studio, and no formal training at all... not even a midi keyboard. Just a pc and some software. And managed to create quite a stir with his first release in 2007. Thats pretty inspiring as far as I'm concerned, and I love how some people call his music "generic" while others would claim he paved a fresh path for trance with his focus on classical/film scores breaks.
I just found it refreshing compared to some of the other crap artists are doing like SHM and their recycled garbage (different genre but still). And his biggest compliment to trance imo is really not overstaying his welcome like tiesto/buren and some other well known greedy fucks have done.

I don't know I think my point is theres just other artists much more deserving of that greedy arguement than blueman. Maybe he IS going to film score for money, but he's also taking a huge risk considering he has no real training for it. With that considered it sounds more like he's making that move because film score has been a longstanding dream of his, (before trance) and with the risk considered, it sounds like a move based more on passion than greed.

Posted by Kysora on Jan-02-2011 02:26:

If I remember correctly almost all of his original tracks are trance reworks of orchestral pieces he'd written beforehand. Film scores were his original passion and inspiration and I'm sure he just wants to see if he can use the publicity he's gotten with uplifting trance to get some offers to do film scores instead.

I'm having a hard time believing that he's in it for money. If he wanted to make money he wouldn't be pursuing two genres that are extremely hard to actually make good money writing for.

That's because it doesn't matter what's in the breakdown, just the fact that the beat disappears for longer than 30 seconds makes most people think the track is suddenly generic tripe.

He did something new and he inspired a lot of artists to follow suit, including myself, nothing he's done was done to the same caliber before him as far as I'm concerned. Except maybe Aly & Fila, but even they didn't go as far with breakdowns as he did.
